It was past the twilight hour and after riding a cab, Harry, Hermione, Victoire, and Charlie finally arrived at a certain location, they stood in front of a banner that was written in complete Spanish, however, thanks to Hermione’s recently developed live translation spell, based on the ones founds on the internet, for the group of foreigners suddenly the message in the banner changed into English.
“Welcome to hell (el infierno) where the heat puts the real hell into shame…”
This little town is located on the outskirts of the forest where the group was expected to get inside as soon as possible to search for Bill, this will be their last opportunity to interact with the human civilization for some time and according to what Harry knows, this town is balanced between wizards and muggles because contrary to what happens in Europe, it's not illegal to use certain magic related things with muggles like love rituals and potions, this is one of the reasons why the ICW doesn't recognize Mexico as a magical state even if they monitor the statute of secrecy.
This place is known as something people in Mexico call a magical town (pueblo magico) and not because they're aware of the existence of witches and wizards, no that's still a secret, it’s because it’s an old town from the days of the European colonization. It's also a good name to attract tourists, most foreign tourists come here to have their souls cleaned as there are a lot of fake wizards and witches doing fake rituals, so, even some real witches and wizards do that too but there are some genuine.
“Thank you for bringing us here,” Hermione said to a young cab driver in perfect Spanish even though she was speaking in English, this was thanks to the translation spell.
“Good luck to you and your friends ma’am, just let me give you one piece of advice, don’t come out of your home once the night hits, weird things happen in this town according to the locals, it could be the work of supernatural beings or worse…Humans, so, good luck!” The driver said with a British accent even though he was born in this country or at least that's what he said when he chatted with them on the way from the airport to this town, he seemed interested in Victoire, the translation spell was truly amazing.
The group thanked the fellow and soon, they entered the town, they needed a place to stay the night, tomorrow morning they were going to follow the path that according to the investigations Bill and his group followed. Harry already planned the route but there was always space for improvement when you’re with Hermione Granger, the two friends hadn’t been in this position since the Horcrux hunt, at least they were not being haunted by a maniac this time though.
“Where do we go now, Harry?” Asked Hermione with a curious expression.
“Don’t worry guys, I’ve got the right place where we can stay and it’s ridiculously cheap and good but for now, there’s a theory I’d like to prove and we came in the right time of the year, I need to ask some questions to the local wizards and witches first,” Harry answered with a soft smile on his face that made Victoire blush.
“How are we going to find them?” The young veela tried to look serious but she was not completely focused on the quest.
Harry was about to answer the younger woman’s question, however, a scene suddenly startled them, coming out of what looked to be some kind of shady store, a lot of cloaked figures that looked like dementors that had skeletal hands and from the hood that covered the faces only a pair of red eyes could be seen, the most impressive thing was that the things were scared and soon they flew away from the place.
“Well, that was weird, it’s the first time I’ve seen those creatures,” Charlie said with a shocked but awed expression.
“Well, it looks like inside that building there's a wizard…Or a witch,” Harry said with a smirk on his face.
Harry and Hermione grimaced when they saw the name of the business… “Dolores: a place to heal and clean your soul,” it could be read in the live translation.
“Ugh, that name,” Harry said as he remembered Umbridge who was still rotting in Azkaban.
“Come on Harry, I hate that woman too but we shouldn’t judge all women named Dolores in the world just based on the actions of one!” Hermione tried to encourage his best friend who couldn’t help but smile, his best friend was still, always the logical one.
The door of the place was one of those made of crystal that you just need to slide to open it, the group was surprised and happy once they got inside because the place had air conditioning which was a relief in a place like this, coming out of a room, there was a white older couple dressed with what seemed to be the traditional clothes of the area.
They were accompanied by a young man, and because the group was far away they could tell that the young man was the translator between them and a really old lady with light brown skin, grey hair, and honey eyes who was carrying a wooden cane. They were thanking the old lady and judging by their accents, the couple sounded American, and soon, the group greeted them,
“Hey guys, this is the best healer in the area, you won’t regret it, trust me,” said the husband with a smile on his face.
“Yes, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!” The wide said before the two of them bid them farewell, the young man who was with them greeted the group too but he didn’t need translation as he was able to speak English but he had a Spanish accent.
Hermione decided that it was time for them to introduce themselves to the healer who suddenly got a stern look once she saw the brown-haired witch, it seemed like for some reason she was able to trust the American tourists but not fellow magical people.
“Ah…Good evening ma’am…Is it Dolores, right?” Asked Hermione with the sweetest and politest tone possible.
“Please call me Lola,” the old lady said with a serious tone to Hermione and the rest.
The old lady was a little wary but in the end, she decided to trust Hermione, and soon she was introduced to the rest of the group, however, the moment she saw Harry, she started to act like she had seen Voldemort.
“What the…Are you alright ma’am?” Asked Harry with a concerned tone as he tried to approach the woman.
“It’s here…The pale girl is there with you and she’s angry!” The old lady was starting to scare the group, however, there was some curiosity in Hermione.
“The pale girl?” Asked the British minister of magic with a concerned expression thinking the old woman was referring to her or Victoire but she seemed fine before.
“Oh for god’s sake…Who else could be? I’m talking about our dear matron…The holy death!” The older woman said as she slowly regained her composure.
The group was a little worried because even though they managed to see the dementor-like creatures that were scared away they weren’t able to see the figure the old woman was talking about.
“What does she look like? And why is she angry at me?” Asked Harry with a little skepticism.
“Well, of course, she’s the most beautiful woman you’ll ever meet and the one no man will ever touch…It seems like she’s angry at you because you have fooled her not only once but twice!” The group suddenly gulped.
It could be that the woman was putting on a good show to scam them but in the case she wasn’t aware of who Harry Potter was which is something natural considering that internationally his case didn’t gain too much attention as it did in Britain and parts of western Europe, so, if the latter is the case then what she was seeing was real.
“I don’t know what you guys are planning to do but this time you aren’t going to be so lucky young man, she’s coming personally with you, she rarely accompanies humans unless she senses some terrible danger close, but not everything’s lost…This could also be a sign of good luck, either you’ll succeed with grace or you will die in the most gruesome way possible, this is a bet and it’s a choice to either bet your life or back down safely,” the old woman’s tone was getting creepier and creepier with each sentence that she said.
“I’ll take the bet, there’s someone that needs me, we don’t know if this person is dead or alive, so, there’s no other way to find out, I have a duty and a mission and I never back down from my promises,” Harry said with a tone full of confidence.
That earned him a smile from Hermione and Charlie, and a flustered Victoire couldn’t stop herself from smiling too, she suddenly walked towards him and grabbed one of his hands before giving him a loving look that surprised the older Auror, surprisingly even the old lady was smirking at the display.
