“Well, you should go now, I was called by the dark lord to see if you were really dead and now I need to tell him what happened…By the way, it seems like your friends managed to get through the protections of Hogwarts somehow, they kicked me out alongside McGonagall!” Snape told Harry in a fake, offended tone.
“Yes, it’s time for the final attack we need to end this now that he’s lost some of his most important followers and he’s confused,” Harry said with a serious tone.
Soon, he got once again the collar off his neck to turn it into the chest he used to get Luna some food, but now, he got a vial out of the thing and some kind of bone inside a glass recipient and handled the things to the potions master.
“This is…” Snape said before gulping.
“Yes, these are the basilisk fang and venom…The more options we have to destroy that thing the better, you could maybe sip a little venom in one of the victims of the snake and it will die…Probably,” Harry said not so sure about his words.
Snape could only look at him with a serious expression before gulping, that was a really dangerous mission, but everyone agreed to do what was needed to complete the mission, not only Harry, Snape, Hermione, and Ron but also the order members, everyone made an unbreakable vow promising that they would do what they can to help to defeat the dark lord, all the people involved knew that dying was a likely option, so, the potions master nodded at Harry.
“Well, I guess you have some business to attend with the dark lord…I need to see Narcissa, we need to keep up the façade, right?” Asked Harry with an expression full of regrets, it seemed like he thought that the woman loved him and he felt guilty about it.
“Yes…See you soon, after what happened the dark lord is probably going to gather everyone to prepare us for the final battle,” Snape said to Harry and the young man nodded.
Snape could only look at the younger wizard as he got away and left the room, he couldn’t help but think of his mother, he was glad he was alive, and he promised himself that he was going to protect what was left of Lily’s legacy, so, now it was his turn, he was going to see the dark lord and he was going to kill the snake now, so, he hid the basilisk fang under his cloak and started to walk around the manor until he heard a hissing on a certain room.
Snape was determined, he found the snake and he was going to kill it, he didn’t care that he was going to get killed by the dark lord in exchange but that was going to make Voldemort mortal once again and then the Potter boy would finally destroy him once for all.
“Lily…Wish me luck,” he muttered to himself as he saw the snake swallowing an unknown wizard.
He was getting closer and closer to the snake and he was ready to ambush it but then he decided to stop in his tracks for some reason.
“Ah, Severus…I’m glad you joined us,” the dark lord suddenly materialized right beside Nagini.
Now Snape felt completely useless, he could have attacked the snake without thinking twice and just destroyed it, but he decided to remain in his place and now the chance to kill the thing was gone.
“My lord…I was told you wanted to see me, I wanted to tell you some things too,” Snape said as he bowed and he wasn’t completely lying but that wasn’t the reason why he was in that room.
“Yes…I heard what happened in Hogwarts, don’t worry my friend, you’ll get your position back in no time, after all, I need you to put into practice the new reforms to educate the witches and wizards of our country, that’s why we need to get ready for the final attack,” the dark lord said in an amused tone.
“Yes my lord…I’ll do whatever you ask me and by the way…I’d like to inform you that sadly the Potter boy is alive,” the potions master’s words made the dark lord open his eyes as wide as he could get them.
“What? Wasn’t he dead?” Voldemort’s amusing tone was gone.
“How I wish that were the truth, my lord, I like to believe that not even death wants him but my logical side makes me think that his body just shut down to protect itself and avoid any damage in the magical core,” Snape carefully choose his words, the last thing he wanted was to get the dark lord angry and get himself killed before killing the snake.
The dark lord was now behaving strangely, he didn't seem to be angry but he didn’t seem amused either, Snape knew that just like a snake, he was completely unpredictable, he sometimes pretended to be fun and charming but in the end, he was too dangerous behind that façade.
“Yes…Of course that is, there’s no way that brat could be that lucky...Twice…Did he tell you anything regarding what happened with Rodolphus and Bellatrix?” Asked Voldemort with a more calming yet frightening tone.
“Not at all my lord, he told me that he didn’t remember one thing of these past few days, he didn’t even remember he had a mission with them,” Snape explained with the calmest tone possible.
“I guess he was telling the truth in the end, you have to hurry with the veritaserum but putting that aside…Who are those people Severus? Who are the ones who dare to defy me by ambushing my people and attacking the settlements of our allies?” Voldemort wanted answers.
“My lord…I think the ones responsible are the remaining members of the order of the Phoenix, I think they had a plan in case Dumbledore died but I was never informed about it and now it has become impossible to track them down,” Snape said with the most convincing tone possible.
That didn’t stop the dark lord from trying to poke into his thoughts but he failed to find something that could contradict what he stated, so, even if the dark lord was completely paranoid right now, that didn’t stop him from trusting Severus, after all, he was his most powerful servant right now, the dark lord couldn't afford to lose him right now.
“It’s fine,” the dark lord said in an emotionless tone. “One week Severus…In one week we’re going to attack Hogwarts and we’re going to end this war, I’m sure that the order and all the people who oppose me are going to be there, I’ll try to end it in the most pacific way possible,” Voldemort surprised the potions master this time.
“You’re very merciful my lord,” Snape was completely honest right now.
“We need to Severus…There won’t be any mercy for the order members but I think I’ll spare the young wizards and witches regardless of their origin, after all, I don’t want to drop more magical blood, if only people would join me without fighting I wouldn't have killed so much potential good witches and wizards that could have served me!” The dark lord said exasperated.
They remained in silence for a few moments, the dark lord was collecting his thoughts, and it seemed like he was already envisioning his triumph.
“You know what Severus? I’m glad Potter lived…The day we attack Hogwarts, we’re going to gather everyone and they’ll witness their hero, their savior…They’ll be witnessing him taking the dark mark and that will end the war without any casualties!” The dark lord said with an ecstatic tone.
Snape could only look at the monster in front of him with hate even if he was disguising it with fear, he had to kill that snake one way or another before that happened.
