“Harry…” A young girl with so much brown hair that covered most of her eyes said, she was also wearing glasses and had freckles too, she had perfect teeth though.
She had a shocked expression as she encountered a young boy in the hallways, he looked to be the same age as she was and he was wearing a black suit. She was wearing graduation clothes, and she was wearing the hat too, but this was a little weird considering this girl wasn’t at the right age to be graduating.
“Congratulations for graduating Hermione,” Harry said with a shy expression.
“Thank you…I didn’t expect to see you here, this ceremony is only for the relatives of those of us who are graduating and…Oh right, professors can bring anyone they want to, I guess you came here with your mom, right?” Asked the bushy-haired girl with a serious tone.
“Yes, I told her I needed to be here, and she was confused but she allowed me to come with her as long as I remained in my place, I guess you didn't see me in the crowd,” Harry said still with a shy tone.
“But…Why? It has been just a few months since we met…” Hermione couldn’t help but blush.
Harry didn’t say anything, instead, he decided to lead her to another part of the castle, the stairs weren’t the right place to talk with someone, or at least not with someone you kind of know and soon they were already on the gardens that led to Hagrid’s hut, the half-giant was surely cooking something as smoke was coming out of the place he called home.
“Hermione…I took my practical magical exams as usual in the room of requirement and yes I got out of control but without your tips, I wouldn’t have passed those exams, thank you so much and I know we haven't known each other for too long, but still, you’re the closest person I can call a friend,” Harry confessed. “That’s why I couldn’t miss this opportunity to come to your graduation…Oh, right…” Harry said suddenly remembering something.
He handed the bushy-haired girl a small wooden box that seemed too small to have something important inside, but when Hermione opened it, her eyes widened, there were many little bottles and all of them had what looked to be spices.
“Harry…These are potion ingredients…I know some of them are expensive and quite rare too…” Hermione couldn’t believe it.
“It’s okay, I’ve had some savings and my mom knows some distributors who gave me a good price for them, I always wanted to give a friend a gift…You now have a license to use magic and brew potions whenever you want, you’re allowed to use these materials, so, I know it’s not too much but I hope this small gift of mine continues to inspire you in your dream of adapting some of the muggle technology and medicines to this world,” Harry explained and the young girl was on the verge of tears.
“Harry…There’s something you need to know about me…I’m not a good person, I’ve never considered you my friend,” she confessed with a sad tone.
And even though Harry was used to this, it still hurt to hear those words.
“Harry…I can’t be your friend because I’m in love with you,” she suddenly added.
To say that Harry was taken aback by that confession would be the understatement of the century, he was standing there in front of Hermione without any idea of what to do or say.
“Hermione…” He said with a shocked tone. “I’m sorry…But even though I think you’re cute and a good person, I can’t be with you, I’m sorry, it’s not me, it’s you…” Harry couldn’t help but say, he was truly being honest.
“I hate that phrase…People only say that because they don’t want to hurt the other person but in reality, they’re nothing but cowards who can't be honest and say that they find the other person disgusting…Fine, I’m sorry for thinking I had an opportunity with someone as amazing as you!” Hermione couldn’t help but explode and soon, she ran away from him while she was sobbing.
“Hermione, wait!” Harry tried to speak with her to make her understand that he was truly being honest, he didn’t have the confidence to be in a relationship, especially considering he was a time bomb and as a time bomb, it was only a matter of time that he would kill anyone close to him at some point.
Even though Hermione has seen more of his dangerous side and contrary to most people who think he's nothing but vessel for something so dangerous, she still sees him as a human, but regardless of that, Harry was sure that at some point he was going to hurt her too, so, even though it hurt him to see run away from him without looking back, he was happy that at least she wouldn’t be hurt, someone like Hermione is needed in this magical world, only someone like her can change this world.
And that was the last time they saw each other until…
“H-Harry…” Hermione couldn’t believe it.
He was so different physically, he became taller, he was not as pale as he was when they were teenagers, and it seemed like he had gotten his unruly hair under control, but the most surprising thing was his body, it seemed like he has been working out, a lot of wizards age like cheese but Harry was not one of them.
“Oh…My…God…He’s hot…I need to calm down…Suppressing…Reproductive… Instincts… Now!” Hermione thought completely worried about her current state.
“You already used to look good Hermione but I can see time has been good to you,” Harry couldn’t help but say in an embarrassed tone.
He was being honest, long gone is the hair that covers her eyes just like the glasses, her freckles aren’t as noticeable as before, and she has become taller and slender, Harry was sure that with a little work, she could become a muggle model if she wanted to.
“T-Thank you…” She said shyly until she realized the way she was acting. “Wait a minute…What are you doing here? I thought you made things clear back then Harry Potter, you told me you didn't want to be with me!” Hermione was trying to act as tough as possible but that seemed like a very difficult action.
But then he did something she wasn’t expecting, he fell on his knees and bowed until his face was close to the ground.
“W-What are you—” The bookworm couldn’t finish because Harry suddenly spoke.
“I’m sorry!” He said with a desperate tone.
“Wait a minute, don't do that, you're making me look like the villain in this situation, please stand up!” Hermione said as she got on her knees and tried to get him back to his feet.
It was difficult but in the end, he got back to his feet and then she blushed the moment she realized she was touching his shoulder, it was the first time she touched him like this, this was too improper for an investigator like her.
“Hermione…I’m sure there’s nothing I can say to ease the anger and hate you feel about me but…I was being honest back then, even though I would’ve loved to date you, I was a danger to anyone who would get close to me…Imagine if we shared a kiss, that could’ve triggered incidental magic and I would’ve gotten out of control and killed you at the moment,” he said with an honest tone.
Hermione couldn’t help but gulp as she looked at him, he looked more mature than her even though he had been shielding himself from the real world.
“Hermione…I know our friendship could never get back to the way it used to be, but…I need your help and before you reject me, I’m not asking you to do this to help me, but to help my mom…I know how much you love her,” Harry’s words suddenly made Hermione forget her embarrassment.
“What?! Did something happen to Lily?!” Asked the bookworm with a desperate tone as she grabbed him by his shoulders.
There were a lot of things Hermione needed to hear about.
