“Lils…This has been an incredible night but I’m thinking about…Having our own private party…If you know what I mean,” James suddenly said with a slight smirk on his face, his wife was in the same state as him and she couldn’t help but giggle and nod, if there was a way to make this party even better, it seems like her husband had already found out a way to achieve that.
He and Lily were in the main hall where the party was held and they were one of the remaining couples in the room, but they weren’t dancing, they were drinking on a corner far away from the rest of the guests.
“You know what? That sounds like a wonderful idea James and I’d be—” Lily’s happiness suddenly disappeared and her eyes widened.
“Lily…What’s wrong?” Asked James in a confused and disappointed tone, he knew what he was planning to do wasn’t going to happen tonight…Again.
“Someone barged into our studio and it seems like they discovered the secret notebook,” she whispered to James whose eyes widened.
They got on their feet as soon as they could and started to run as fast as possible towards that room.
“Lils…Are you sure about it? There’s always fake alerts when it comes to our secret,” James whispered as low as he could and Lily had the same stern expression the whole time.
“Yes, James…There’s no doubt someone’s there and it seems like they have discovered our secret,” she said once she arrived at her studio.
They nodded at each other and got their wands ready to take care of the person who was inside in case it was an intruder and they were even ready to obliviate them in case they discovered what they were hiding.
“Shall we do this in the good way or the bad way? You’re an Auror, so, I’ll trust you in whatever thing you want us to do,” the redhead told her husband.
“Let’s do this in the good way, who knows? Maybe someone just got lost,” James said as he tried to open the door but he couldn’t do it.
Soon, he started to knock and hit the door and he started to scream at the person who was inside to open the door, but there was no response, they kept trying to open the door and they realized what happened.
“Lils…The security system got activated and locked the door to impede the person inside from escaping,” James whispered and she nodded with a worried tone.
“You unlock the door while I get ready to attack in case someone dangerous is in there,” James suggested to his wife and she nodded completely trusting in her husband and soon, they were already in their positions.
It didn’t take too long for Lily to conjure a spell and unlock the door and suddenly, she got on her knees and opened the door.
“Put your hands up and—” James said in the usual Auror protocol he follows.
But to his surprise, there was no one there.
“James, what’s going on?” Asked Lily still on her knees as she prepared herself to attack too.
“There’s no one inside,” James said with a calm tone and soon, his wife and he started to look inside the place, trying to find the intruder but there was no one in the room.
Surprisingly, everything was in order, it seemed like everything was in the right place, and they were looking at each other with confused expressions, but then, another door opened, and it was the one where the toilet was located but soon, they were pointing their wands at someone they were close to.
“Harry?” Asked Lily and James at the same time.
“Oh…Hey mom, dad…What’s with the wands?” He asked in a happy drunken tone.
And soon, his parents remembered what they were doing and it didn't take too long for them to lower their wands.
“Not that we mind Harry but…What are you doing here?” Asked James with a warm smile.
Harry was completely nervous, he was aware his mother was hiding something here and he found out what it was but seeing his father’s fake gentle expression was telling him that he knew too which made him feel confused and guilty about putting them in this position.
He was aware why they were suddenly here and he was expecting this to happen, that’s why after he heard them knocking, he took a risk and used the spell Scourgify to clean things and get them back to where they belonged, he was happy the moment all things got back to its place and he was relived when the tile got back to its place alongside the notebook, but due to him being someone who can't control his magic, there was a price he had to pay for this, that’s why he went to the bathroom.
It seemed like his parents really put a good effort into guarding this place and he was glad they did that, after all, their lives were at risk just by investigating such things even if their investigations could help him to save the world.
“Uh…Nymphadora fell asleep in my room and I decided to let her take my room, so, I was searching for a place to sleep and I found this one was empty,” he said in a happy tone.
He was trying to act as if that was the truth, he was lying and he was trying to give an acting worthy of winning an Oscar because if he got discovered, he’ll have to tell his parents the truth, and knowing them, he was aware they'll want to carry with another burden and that’s the last thing he wanted them to deal with.
“Oh…Is that so? I’m glad that’s what happened, as you know, those books are quite expensive, so, we have them in case we need quick money, so, we placed a few alarm charms in case someone moves them, we don't want our books to get stolen, so…Did you touch them or something?” Asked Lily in the nicest tone possible and Harry couldn’t help but gulp.
He knew she was furious but he wasn’t sure if she was furious because he touched their books or because she thought Harry discovered her secret (she was right even though she didn't know), this gave Harry some hope that they believed his lie, so, he had to keep going with his lie.
“Not the books exactly but when I was on my way to the bathroom something happened, I was walking like a drunkard and for some reason, I had trouble with my feet when I walked around that tile,” Harry signalized a tile that was close to where the notebook was hiding.
James and Lily gulped at the explanation, but it was still hard for them to believe that was the reason why the alarm got activated.
“So, what happened next is that I was about to fall on the floor but then I instinctively reached out for the bookcase to avoid that from happening, and maybe that’s the moment when one of your books moved, sorry,” he said in an embarrassed tone and his parents were still analyzing his words.
Seeing his parents looking so thoughtful made Harry feel a little hopeful, he was pretending to be completely wasted, so, even if they catch the plot holes in his story, the next day he can pretend this never happened, so, this was his call to get the fuck out of here before his mother realizes the truth and releases her wrath on him.
“Well, you two seem a little troubled, so, I guess I better find another place to sleep…Sorry again if I moved your books,” Harry said as he escaped from the room at a very interesting speed.
Once he was gone, James and Lily stared into each other’s eyes, and soon, after giving a quick review of the bookcase, Lily got all the books back to their place, and James suddenly walked towards the secret tile.
“Is that really…?” He questioned his son’s story but then, as he walked there his feet started to walk weirdly too and he was about to fall which corroborated Harry’s story.
Or maybe Harry put a little floor cleaner there to make his story seem more believable.
“Lils, we better tell the elves to not clean too much this place,” James suggested and Lily instead of helping him to get on his feet, locked the door and removed the bookshelf to press the button to reveal her secret notebook.
“There you are my darling…It’s fine, I’m here!” She said in a worried and obsessive tone, this was the investigation of her life, so, losing this would be like dying to her.
Her husband just stared at her with a defeated tone, she seemed to be more in love with that notebook than with him these days.
Meanwhile in a bathroom…
“Fuck!” Harry said as he stared at himself in the mirror, there was blood coming out of his mouth, but he wasn’t shocked he was more like angry but this was the price he had to pay for using that simple spell.
“Kill them all!” Said the voice in Harry’s head.
It was the Horcrux trying to take control of his body but the fact that he was bleeding, means that the thing wasn’t being successful at it…Yet.
