Summary: Harry Potter is a rookie in the Auror department and that means he’s always obeying someone else, especially the chief and her second-in-command Nymphadora Tonks, not that he’s complaining about that though…
Pairing: Harry/Amelia Bones/Nymphadora Tonks
Chapter #1: Rookie days.
It was a busy day in the Auror department, a lot of people were moving around and there was a good reason for it, a serial killer was roaming in the country and the killer’s victims were wealthy aristocratic wizards.
Now, the death of those kinds of people wouldn't cause concern in the general public, but after the war and the death of the darkest wizard in decades, people don't want another Voldemort in the making and this killer is following a pattern that reminds people of Lord Voldemort's early days.
After the necromancer’s death, it was revealed a lot about his life, like his childhood, his origin, how he was born, how he raised, and how he lived his life until he committed his first murder, the thing here is that contrary to Voldemort, the killer is not attacking the ones that are considered impure, all the opposite that killer is attacking wealthy pureblood wizards and there seems a lot of support for that killer amongst the general public and the government wants to stop that.
This has led investigators to realize that the killer is possibly a muggle-born, it’s not a surprise to find a lot of people who aren't happy about the results of the post-war trials, awful criminals were spared once again from being punished either because they managed to sell their stories or because of corruption, and surprisingly the five victims of the killer were accused of horrible crimes but somehow, they managed to escape from justice.
The press loves this kind of situation not only because it's an interesting story, but also because morbid stuff sells incredibly well, the public also loves to shit on the justice system and the articles about the incompetence of the Auror department have been endless, that’s why the department has been in constant pressure by the minister to solve this as fast as possible or else there might be very bad consequences for everyone.
“Potter my coffee!” An older woman said with a serious tone.
She has purple hair and is wearing a tight white shirt that hugs her big melons and her tight waist, she’s wearing a pair of tight blue jeans that hug her big rear and long legs, and black boots.
“Yes ma’am…I mean Tonks!” A younger man said before he ran around the place to reach out for her coffee.
"Don't waste time, you know how much I hate useless bums like Remus!" She said bitterly and Harry sighed.
He needed to be careful because the woman was very special when it came to her coffee, there shouldn’t be any mistake in the making of it, the water has to have the right amount of minerals and the water needs to be warm but not to the point of burning her mouth, she likes it with one cube of sugar imported from South America, and everything needs to be done as fast as possible, once Harry finished he ran across the room and there he found the woman in charge of him she was speaking with an older red-haired woman who’s using black high heels and a black cloak.
This is the life of Harry Potter, the boy who lived just to have a life full of danger in the supposed safest and most prestigious witchcraft school. One would say that a job like this was predictable for someone like him and he was happy with being predictable, however, once he joined the Auror department he wasn’t expecting to get treated like this.
He destroyed the darkest wizard in decades for fuck’s sake, he was ready for the action and everything else, that’s why he joined this place, he wanted to make the world safer so there wouldn’t be more children like him or Voldemort, and yet, he was treated like a servant here.
Now, Harry doesn’t hate Tonks, after all, he has known her for a very long time and they share a special bond no one else will be able to destroy, however, there’s a reality that needs to be accepted, she wasn’t the usual person he knew ever since he came to know her.
She used to date and she was about to marry one of his parents' best friends: Remus Lupin. The older man clearly had a lot of issues but after the war, it seems like he didn't want to pretend anymore, he confessed to Tonks that he was actually in love with another man, so, he couldn't do any other thing than abandon Nymphadora and now Harry has to hear about her complaining about him every day.
As was stated before, due to him destroying the darkest wizard in decades, he didn’t have to pass through the training and neither the tests a lot of Aurors go through, due to his amazing feat he was accepted immediately in the Auror department.
However, Tonks and Amelia agreed with something when it comes to him, even after everything he did, he was going to get treated like the rest of the rookies that joined the forces, not because they hate him or because they feel jealous about his quick success but it’s more like a humbling thing, they don't want him to become arrogant.
Also, they don’t want the experienced Aurors, the ones who went through the training and tests to get angrier than they already were at Harry Potter, yes, he saved the world but humans are very complex beings when it comes to emotions, and these people aren’t going to respect someone who didn’t went through the same shit to get where they are now.
Amelia and Nymphadora not only want to make the nineteenth-year-old man humble, but they also want him to earn the respect of the rest of the people in the department just like everyone else did when they joined, they know he's capable of that and they can count on his power if they had to, however, he’s just a rookie, and he was going to get treated like that despite his protests.
“No way, are you serious Amelia…I mean, chief?” Asked Tonks with a surprised expression.
“Yes Tonks, let’s get going, get your people, and let’s get there as soon as we can before the press arrives to bother us,” the red-haired woman said with a serious expression. “And take Potter with you, I’m sure he’d love to see some action,” Amelia added and the younger woman nodded disappointed.
“Are you serious? He’s still a rookie, it took me a year before seeing my first crime scene!” Tonks complained before she looked at her subordinate.
“Here’s your coffee Tonks,” Harry said with a calm expression.
He wanted to celebrate he was going to visit a crime scene but he decided to remain calm, he didn’t want to annoy Tonks, or else he was going to work extra hard later so she could forgive him, she gets annoyed easily during work hours, and after every shift, the two of them reunite with the chief to discuss some important stuff just between them and that’s a duty Harry needs to perform every day.
“Forget about it, we’re visiting a crime scene and you’re coming too, so, let’s get going, grab your wand, and tell Hestia and Smith to get ready to with us,” Tonks said before sighing. “What are you waiting for? Hurry up before the worms eat the body!” The purple-haired woman hurried him and Harry quickly got back to reality because for a moment he thought she was being soft on him.
He ran as fast as he could and due to his hurriedness he wasn’t able to see Tonks smiling at him, she was having lots of fun with the younger man, she had always loved to tease him and even if she acted like this towards him, she doesn’t have any problem with him, but due to their familiarity she doesn’t want anyone to think that she has some kind of preference with him, she doesn’t give special treatment to anyone and Harry Potter is no exception to that rule despite his reputation and fame.
Five minutes later…
In the middle of nowhere, in the countryside there was something terrible in the middle of some wheat crops, there were some circle figures but the most shocking thing was that in the middle of the biggest crop circle, there was the body of a blonde man, Tonks, her team and the chief were on the way there, however, someone was already there.
“Oh no…Skeeter!” Tonks said with an exasperated tone.
“You and your team need to get there, I’ll talk with the press,” Amelia said and thankfully her team heard and they moved as fast as they could.
“Chief, is true the killer is an auror?” Skeeter suddenly asked the chief.
“Is true that is a woman? Is true that is a monster? Is Voldemort back?” Asked the other journalists and Amelia could only fake a smile as she prepared to answer their questions while Nymphadora and her team approached the crime scene.
Tonks's team consisted of Nymphadora obviously, Harry Potter, Hestia Joines who is the same age as Nymphadora, and a guy named John Smith, not a very original name but at least he was a cool guy, he has always treated Harry like a normal person compared to Hestia who has always been cold towards the rookie, all of them were wearing black coats and once they reached the body they were surprised to see who that man was as they put gloves on their hands.
“Isn’t that…?” Harry asked with his eyes open wide.
“It can’t be, is it?” Smith asked.
“I won’t be surprised if he was,” Hestia said in a cold tone.
“There’s no doubt it’s him…My uncle, the one I never knew…Lucius Malfoy,” Tonks said with a surprisingly calm tone. “Mom’s going to be happy about it, she hated the guy,” she tried to joke but then she closed her mouth. “Don’t tell anyone I said that, I don’t want her to become a suspect,” Tonks added with a worried tone.
“I don’t think you need to worry, if hating him makes you a suspect then at least ninety percent of the general population is a suspect,” Harry said out of nowhere and that caused some chuckles amongst his teammates, he felt proud of his police humor.
“That’s true but this person seemed to have a personal vendetta against him, this is brutal, his eyes are gone and there’s a void in his heart, and considering his expression it seems like everything was done while he was still alive…Just like in the other murders,” Hestia said with a shocked tone.
“Wait, let me see something…” Smith suddenly took Lucius' coat and his shirt and only Harry was shocked to see a lot of scars on his body. “Yep, those are the torture scars all the bodies have and there’s this strange smell as well, it’s sweet and kind of addicting,” Smith said before he handed the clothes to Harry.
The dark-haired wizard didn’t know why he did the next thing but he couldn’t stop himself from smelling the clothes and his eyes widened.
“Wait a minute…I recognize this smell…It’s gasoline!” Harry Potter said out of nowhere and his teammates stared at him with shocked expressions. “It is used to make muggle vehicles move and there are endless places where you can get it, this confirms that the culprit has clear knowledge about the muggle world,” Harry added and his teammates were surprised by his quick reasoning.
A few hours later…
After the autopsy and all the procedures were done, it was stated that the victim was indeed another victim of the serial killer, the killer was getting better at his work but thanks to Harry they now had more clues, so now Harry, Nymphadora and Amelia were having their usual post-work meeting.
“Gasoline…Now that we know where the smell comes from we can do material research throughout the country, we just need a gasoline sample and we’ll be getting closer to the killer…Good job Harry,” Amelia said with a smile on her face.
“I think we’ll be able to get a suspect in the next twenty-four hours,” Tonks was confident about this.
“I told you I had skills but you still refused to take me to the crime scenes…Don’t you think I deserve an apology?” Asked Harry with a smirk and suddenly, the two women moved around before they sat on each one of his legs.
Suddenly they kissed him and they shared a three-way kiss, and this is one of the reasons why he was accepted in the Auror department, no one but him can keep up with their sexual energy.

That could get interesting as there are plenty of muggleborns and a number of half-bloods who would have the knowledge to obtain and use it. At least they are not yet making Molotov cocktails. Mind you, I can think of some other interesting, and even more dangerous, ways of using petrol, home-made napalm isn't *that* hard and neither is thermite. There are some other thoroughly nasty things that can be done with common items, found in non-magical households, too - making tabin nerve gas anyone?

Oh don't worry, it's not about finding the exact store where the petrol from the evidence comes from, it's more about finding the exact person in the magical Britain who is in possession of petrol, after all, is not a common substance in the wizarding world!

I agree, I am certain it will take more than checking petrol stations and checking the smell from teh different stations. IIRC, the petrol comes from refineries and it would be the refinery that would determine the smell, though for the most part there's a standard government requirement for what is in petrol that likely would obviate any value there. I suspect a detailed chemical analysis, likely necesaryily to be done in the muggle world, and comparison with proucts of different refineries. At most, you can tell what company sold the gasoline.

Gasoline is Petrol in the UK/Australia. It doesn't have to my knowledge a different smell by whichever petrol station it comes from.
