Yeah, these two characters are fun. I like writing 'em.
We finished our X-Men movie marathon! We last stopped at Days of Future Past which was a nice solid movie. Apocalypse after that was... just fucking awful, jesus. An incredibly boring, super dry, flavorless cut of a movie more interested in big weightless CG setpieces than anything else. Even the bad movies like Wolverine's Origin was at least entertainingly bad, but this was just so damn boring. Which I guess someone else also realized, because Logan after that was the exact opposite.
Logan... man. Holy shit. What a film. We didn't expect like, ACTUAL cinema in these X-Men movies. Hell, even going into it, I was like "okay what, did they play Last of Us or see Children of Men or something", but no. God, no. Yeah, maybe it does have every sad dad trope, but the character writing and circumstances these characters get into just elevate it to something really special. It's a movie that could only really be told with these characters, in this movie franchise, with this history. Fuck. Seeing Logan after all these X-Men movies was a perfect capstone.
Also makes that one scene in Deadpool and Wolverine make a lot more sense now.
