The ship Avasarala killed was the Sojourner, the same ship Marco Inaros attacked earlier in the season. Bodies from the Sojourner were shown falling into the Ring at some point. That attack by Marco broke the Belters-Inners truce, which led to Drummer, Ashford, and other Belters going after Marco. When caught, Marco told them that he sold the Sojourner for scrap. That the Sojourner turned up again and just happened to be on a collision course with an Earther defense satellite means Marco was lying about selling the ship for scrap. He turned it into a weapon and put Avasarala in a tough position.
