Early Alpha of House of Hellish Harlots v0.042
🕑 Added 2023-02-15 20:27:06 +0000 UTCThis is slightly early, I know.
As I've been mentioning in update posts, I've been running into problems with the Twine Editor lagging and timing out because the HoHH project has grown too large and unwieldy. I've been looking into Tweego as a fix for this.
It's a little fiddly, requiring some mucking around with the command line prompt (boomer Computer Science studies actually quite useful here).
I tried it out with a test program to see how it would handle name clashes and broken links across multiple files. That sort of behaved how I expected, so I moved onto the main HoHH project.
The plan was to copy the project 7 times and then delete passages down until I had a core module with the NPCs and basic game loop, and 6 'faction' modules holding the harlot scenarios and code to individually test them. I figured this would take a couple of weeks.
Instead it took a day and the thing compiled into a working file with no errors at the first attempt.
I'm a little stunned at that to be honest. I know Twine isn't C++, but the project is half a million words and over 4,000 passages, so to have everything just work... is unexpected.
I'm still paranoid something must be broken somewhere, so I'm putting the new version out early to get more eyes to look it over. Play with it as you would normally and let me know if you run into any problems.
If everything does work fine, that's a potentially large roadblock out of the way. The project is now separated into faction modules and I can actually type things in the Twine Editor again. This should bring development back up to speed again (although I'll still need to take a month or two off at some point to get those 7th collection short stories written).
Because I don't want this post to get buried by the #SexDungeon23 posts, I won't post a new room tonight, and will instead put 2 out tomorrow.
Please give this release a good test anyway, and let me know what you think below (it does include the new harlot Lady Flumpth).

I'll clean it up for the 'official' end of month release. I wanted to get an alpha build out early as the best way to find out if something has broken is to get everyone to play it. I'll probably also fix some minor bugs on my todo list that people have reported but I haven't been able to get at because the editor was lagging too hard.

Cheers. I'll look into that. There might be a few things that have stopped working properly after the reorganisation I need to check up on.

The main menu still says version 0.041, maybe change it out? XD so far i don't really see any bugs

Hi, so I was checking the build and noticed that you don't get any affliction after you with some the harlots like the sufocatrixes or amoura. I'm guessing that there is a bug there. Other than that, it's looking good 👍
