The song playing under the LoVe scene at the end is "Fidelity" ;) It's weird that they had an athletics plot without any Wallace? I think they were cycling actors this season to cut costs (so no Mac on screen this episode either because we get Weevil).

Not related to this episode specifically, but I had a realization recently. Veronica Mars really does wear its Buffy influence on its sleeve. Most of the characters can be paired up with equivalents from Buffy. Veronica/Buffy - girl gifted with a special power that makes her feel separated from others Duncan/Angel - the boring guy with a dark side he hates Logan/Spike - the friends-to-lovers asshole with great chemistry Wallace/Xander - the 'regular guy' and jokester Mac/Willow - the gothy computer girl friend Keith/Gilles - the father figure mentor And, if you want to stretch it a bit Jackie/Cordelia - poor girl with a heart of gold pretending to be a mean rich girl Madison/Harmony - petty spoiled rich girl semi-antagonist Gia/Anya - female friend with communication issues, possibly coded neuro-divergent Those are the ones that occurred to me. Obviously this is based on Season 2 (given the presence of Gia and Jackie). Oh, and I did the delete/repost because I hit enter without shift and posted when I was less than half finished. Edit: Oh, and this is probably not an original observation, but as a newbie to the Veronica Mars fandom, I just recently noticed the parallel in the casts, so it's new to me.

I think I agree with your thoughts about one of those crimes being more frightening. At least murder victims don't have to live with the trauma afterward.

This season has the rape storyline front and center and it is disturbing but the storyline started in season 2 when Veronica visited Hurst with Wallace and her old boyfriend from season 1 was accused of rape. It's the same rapist on campus. Of course season 1 had the subplot of who drugged and raped Veronica and season 2 had child molester politician in it but it hits different when it's front and center plus there have been so many on campus it gives a sort of serial killer vibe especially with the taking of the hair. Add to that the dean not taking it seriously and the cops not doing anything and it makes for a much more disturbing plot when you consider the murders of the previous seasons were not ongoing.

I remember this episode! Mostly because there's a lot of LoVe content negl and Weevil playing Keith's PA is a delight that deserved longer airtime. And hey, it's got the (alleged) cannibal Armie Hammer. Never noticed it before.
