Right? There's no way any researcher would do it anymore (for many ethical reasons as well). Even when Zimbardo did it it already felt a bit oldschool social psychology IMO. People were less obsessed with understanding the human element of WW2 by the 70s.

Sororities/fraternities are such a foreign concept to me. Everything I know about them is from American media and it's either Greek tv show level of harmless fun or The Skulls level of crime lol My uni experience was so so different to college experience as US pop culture likes to portray.

Yeah, Rider Strong's character being so awful is definitely uncomfortable to watch, and I'm assuming it's meant to be uncomfortable, so I guess they did their jobs. First of all seeing Shawn from Boy Meets World be such a jerk was jarring, but that's probably more of a me thing. I think the ~18 years between this episode and now also adds a layer of discomfort, as I've seen too many examples of people who are "just being edgy" and then going down the pipeline to being that way unironically.

Even when this first aired, the Stanford prison experiment was already quite well-known. I had even learned about it in high school. There was also a German movie about it called Das Experiment, later remade in English.
