I liked your closer look at the scene with Faith and the three W&H lawyers. My takeaway from your pointing out how Faith was framed in these shots was that the audience should be focusing on the internal conflict within Faith. The lawyers don't really matter here, they are simply an external manifestation of some of the issues Faith is working through. (Tab doesn't work, but new paragraph here) What I appreciate about the last Buffy episode with Faith was slightly different from your take on it. There's some conversation in this episode between Cordelia and Wesley about souls that defines a lot of Angel's show. I love that Faith's character arch comes full circle here. If Buffy's show is about growing up, Angel's show is about redemption and what it means to be person who's fully an adult. I think when Faith was in Buffy's body, it's not that she became a better person or made the choice to give up her ways, it's that she saw she was capable of doing good things and understanding fully why those choices might matter to her as a person. That self-realization is probably unnerving for someone who's done so much they regret. So now the question becomes not, "Is Faith evil?" but, "Is Faith redeemable?" Also, Eliza Dushku is incredible. That last scene has be bawling every time. And notice how Faith's dialogue is always like she's trying way too hard to believe she's something she's not? Perfection.

Other people may have posted this already, but Faith to me is a lesson on what happens to someone who is neglected and abused. Remember when she was talking about her mother (I'm probably not going to quote this exactly), and said she was "too busy enjoying the drinking and passing out parts of life" to buy her a dog. When children are neglected and abused, they can turn their anger inwards and believe the reason they are unloved is because they are bad. They feel they deserve the abuse they're suffering. They can also do things to push people who do love them away - like stealing, for instance (in Buffy's case her identity and even earlier weapons when they stole from the store). They do this in order to prove to themselves and others that they are as they see themselves - unlovable. They can also become suicidal in extreme instances, which is the ultimate manifestation of self-hatred. Faith is an extremely sad case, and it just goes to show how shitty the Council is. They can afford to pay Giles but not Faith? The Mayor puts her up in a nice apartment but the Council has her at a fleabag motel? She's right to wonder what would've happened if she had a more confident watcher IMO. Her death wish is a cry for help. That last scene makes me cry every time.
