Charisma tried out for the Buffy role, but did not get it, and got cast as Cordelia instead. That is not "at first was intended".

When you think about the fact that Charisma Carpenter at first was intended to get the Buffy role, most of the times you can't imagine it because Cordi is so... brash. But when she's vulnerable like in the hospital scene, you can really see it. It would've worked, though SMG will be our Buffy forever. Charisma's got some serious acting chops anyway.
