I relate so hard. If I'd have known I could drop out and summon a demon I'd have damned well done that in my third year! I got out of my mind in more conventional ways of course, but I totally understand, Giles, yup! :D Love this episode. Wrecked, drunk, raddled Giles is best Giles :D

There’s just something about the way Giles says “Ethan and I” when he talks about them, two young, hot, London bad boys, as they take turns to invoke a demon most closely associated with orgies that feels so completely heterosexual to me. I do find it funny that Sunnydale did feel the need to hire a guy just to make sure the bodies in the morgue are still there. I'll bet that position has a high turnover rate. 😆

I fear I might be banned for it but I have to be the grammar police... It's "their" not "there" I feel like I have to point it out because 1) it's one of my pet peeves and 2) as a non native speaker when I see a their / there / they're mistake I have to think for an extra second because I don't understand what is written since I don't directly think of the phonetic but rather of the meaning of a word when I read it

Nah - squee all you like. On a first watch you just need to get in to it and not worry so much about hearing every last line and notice every detail. That comes after having seen it 5+ times! For instance, I either forgot about it or never noticed that Willow is drinking tea from Giles's green tea cup when she's in the library with Xander and Cordelia. Episodes are littered with little touches and moments that are easy to miss. I had also forgotten about how much I love the last scene between Buffy and Giles, when she talks to him about realising he's a real person not just an 'adult'. It's great stuff.

On more serious level I love how this is foreshadowed in the previous episode. Buffy's very last line to Giles is calling him a liar. And here we dive a bit into why he can be perceived as one. Just like Angel was hiding the ugly truth of consequences of his soulless times, Giles is hiding the reckless stupidity of his youth. Tho tbf who likes to admit once being a bored, privileged guy accidentally killing a friend because you were looking for unconventional ways of getting high... And my fun fact for the episode is that it's a real headshot of ASH photoshopped on Sid Vicious.
