I started working on it this morning. FYI, I thought it would be fun to include the Wizarding World of JK Rowling in this story, with the idea of a yearly purge against the muggles.
Anyway, just to give you a first quick glance at the premise, here are the first 500 words :
“30…29…28…”
Tom could barely hide his excitement. His hand was clenched around his wand in his pocked, looking at every person walking past him in the street. He had already gotten a few weird looks, as people were probably wondering who this creep staring at them was, not knowing they were dealing with a wizard looking for his first victim of the day.
“23…22…21…”
Times had changed a lot in the wizarding world since the battle of Hogwarts. Despite the defeat of Voldemort and his Death Eaters, things had slowly started to get out of hand again. More and more wizards were tempted to use their powers on unsuspecting muggles to take advantage of them. The Ministry of Magic tried to prevent it at first. For the past centuries, the doctrine had been the same: keep the existence of the wizarding world a secret to the non-magic beings. But soon, the Ministry had realized that they didn’t have the manpower, nor the time, nor the funds necessary to keep preventing these incidents from happening. There wasn’t a single day passing without a woman confronting a man catcalling her, only to end up turned into a blow-up doll, or a guy being transformed into a turd after threatening a stranger groping his girlfriend. Rumors were spreading, although most muggles were still convinced those were just some urban legends.
“12…11…10…”
Understanding they could no longer prevent their kind from messing with muggles, the Ministry took a controversial decision: the magic purge. Using magic in plain sight, in front of the non-magic beings, was still completely illegal. Except for one day a year, during which wizards were allowed to wreak havoc without facing any consequences for their actions. They had done it a first time last year, and somehow, the crime rates had dropped spectacularly the rest of the year. Tom had been waiting for the second purge impatiently. Last years, he had screwed up the lives of 17 muggles in one day. He smiled, remembering using the Imperius curse to force a mother and her two daughters to have sex together. Or that time he had entered a modelling agencies and turned all the hot models into trolls. Good times.
“6…5…4…”
Tom had noticed a few people who were staring at the people passing by. He knew they were probably wizards waiting for the moment they would start attacking the muggles. He strengthened his grip around his wand. Not far from him, two women, a blonde and a brunette, were walking in his direction, carrying shopping bags. He smiled. They didn’t know it yet, but they were going to be his first victims of the day.
“3…2…1…”
Tom’s smile widened, as the two women were now just one meter from him, completely oblivious of the fate he had in store for them. The blonde was the first to notice this creep smiling at them, and frowned.
“What’s so funny?”
“Aaaaand…zero. Sorry, bitches. It’s fun time!”
