Alright Jim.. Stop giving Hideo credit that he does not deserve. This is the guy that made " Liquid Poop" Into Johnny the bad ass in one cut scene. Hideo makes awesome games but his stories are crap filled with great bits of interesting information. But they are 90% crap. I want to add that if you find Quiet sexy that is weird. Her attention seeking movement is not sexy in the slightest. It screams desperate for attention. Women who behave like Quiet are usually emotionally unbalanced and are seeking love. But hey...

Jim let me tell you a story. I live in Japan. Japan is a deep and sexiest country. Example the other day I was watching the news on NHK. NHK is like the BBC. The report was presented by a young girl climbing up a mountain. Where do you think the camera focused on while she walked up the mountain? That is right, on her arse for 10 seconds. I think you missed the big issue about her "gold" costume, its not that it's offensive because it makes her a trophy, its that Kojima breaks the well established rule we learned from Goldfinger, that painting someone gold suffocates them! Ian Flemming must be turning in his grave... or kicking himself that he didn't come up with Quiet himself, the cheeky, sexist scamp :P

I am glad you feel that way. But I think even straight men shouldn't appreciate this, especially if Quiet is otherwise a dynamic, like-able character. If you build this character right, we will still find plenty to love about her without her parading around her skimpy bits for the boys. It's pretty insulting to our strength of character...

I mean, frankly, I think that this is a pretty underwhelming critique of this. You dance around the issue a little bit, but characters who are dressed in this way in video games are *always* attractive women. They are never fat, "ugly," or old. Male characters, however, are allowed to be all of these things, regardless of how they're dressed. So that's another issue here. But even the argument that "Well, at least it'd be something if it was on purpose and he was honest about it" is problematic. That is putting "mature content" on a level with, if not above, "narrative." We already have a media form that does that--it's called "porn." I think a real solution here is to edit the character model to put a big, bulging dong on "her" underneath her bikini bottom and then change nothing else. We'll see how important character design is or isn't then.

I completely agree, the reasoning behind Quiet's nudity is bullshit. Using my basic secondary school biology, to make it work wouldn't Quiet have to have blood vessels right next to the surface of her skin, making her look at least flushed red, if not blood red.

The big question is: how stupid does he think his fanbase is? Does he really think they'll all be smacking their foreheads with their palms saying "that's genius!" when the "reason" is revealed? Does he think no gamer has ever noticed the "breathable" tag on virtually every workout fabric made? Or does he think they're all basement dwellers who never leave the house, much less exercise?

Spot on. If the T&A was for a legitimate reason, why do we see closeups of boobs and ass gyrating while she is "eating" or "drinking" or even just lounging around? It's not the fact it's in there, just don't pretend like it's not in there specifically for wank material.
