a clip from Pride & Prejudice and my 2025 life update
🕑 Added 2025-07-03 15:20:43 +0000 UTChi again! i am getting married next week and attached is a video i made as a surprise for marie's bachelorette party. the version they watched was the entire movie (Pride & Prejudice 2005, her favorite) with this clip seamlessly spliced in over the original scene an hour in. the dialogue is mostly unchanged so that new viewers in the room would still get the full story and emotion of the film. very proud to have pulled it all off in secret. i spent a few months after the Warren Buffett video bouncing between a couple different scripts, all starting with modest aspirations but ending up needing to include the history of the universe for context. so they are long and good but daunting and unfinished. this was all in the background, chipped away at as i put in extra hours at MinnMax (my primary income) with the intent to balance out wedding costs and purchase a house in the fall (home loan approved, so that's actually probably happening).
from when we started a planning a year ago, we've endeavored to have a small, inexpensive wedding. so, as anyone who's done that will tell you, it's still the most expensive thing we've ever done but we've also taken on hundreds of hours of work ourselves to make it happen. i would say about six weeks ago was the last time i worked on the personal channel. between extra MinnMax hours and wedding prep ramping up, i have not had enough time in the day.
but to be honest, i don't feel the constant wish that i was working on my channel that i've felt in off eras of the past. i'm pretty secure that everything i am doing lately just matters more right now, for my relationship and for my future. i sometimes romanticize the theoretical single version of me at this age that is grinding all the time on pushing the channel forward. but i have lived enough to know that for me, work fulfillment without life fulfillment can feel extremely empty.
independent from "i really ought to be working on the channel" is the urge to write and the satisfaction from having written, but i've been surprised how much journaling alleviates that lately. couldn't recommend journaling more, it really goes hard when organizing thoughts and evaluating your mindset is the move.
but i mainly want to be straight up that i haven't worked on the videos in a while. i'm about to have two weeks off for marriage, and then excited to get back to it, but i'll still be working at MinnMax extra until the house gets bought in the fall. my understanding is, especially with marie and i's complicated independent contractor financials, the more money we have in the bank, the better for shopping around for houses. so i'm grinding hard to look as good as possible in that regard, then i'll scale back my hours to match whatever the mortgage ends up being and put a priority on these videos again. but i predict that in hindsight, 2025 will be thought of as a year off for the channel. sad but necessary.
i know no patron cares how long videos take to come out 5% as much as youtubers do, but i also think there's an assumption that i'm always plugging away at something and i have never not plugged away at something this long. i want to communicate that if that does bother you, please pursue a patreon refund with me in DMs here. i really consider your money so barely mine, if you were to ask for it back i would say no duh it's yours anyway. youtube members won't get this part because i have no idea how to do refunds on there. and besides, like i always say, they are lesser!
TL;DR - If you're at all unsure about having a wedding, just elope. busiest time of my life setting myself up for the future, won't be back to prioritizing the channel until after i buy a house in the fall. watch MinnMax, i work there so much because i love that crew and our work and they compensate me well.
