Phoenix

Interesting theory on the Nym. Do you think the power of a Paragon is enough to battle one of the gods or that the Nym had not achieved that level or power yet?

John

I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually learn the System requirement for immediate tempering of a skill upon tier change isn’t natural. We’ve seen examples of The Gods directly interfering in System business before, examples being the Gods have tried to trick Felix during his Omen reveal, Pit during his second evolution. It would make sense for The Gods to not want others following in their footsteps, climbing the ladder of power and then pulling it up to stop others so to speak. Everything having to do with growing in power on the continent is DIFFICULT or takes extraordinary luck and so far it only really seems possible with a benefactor i.e the Pathless for the Hierocracy, Felix for his companions and people. There’s parallels to this situation in the story already, Felix has compared the petty tyrants living on the Continent (like Harwatchs Protectors Guild) to the petty tyrants in the sky (Gods) before. Hell, the Protectors Guild purposefully gives out low quality Metal tier essence potions to their recruits to curb their development and ensure they’re never a threat. Off the top of my head I would even go so far as to propose that the Nym empire specifically worked against such practices. All over their structures we see carvings of multipronged stars, and the star in Pits core space recently grew more points during the confrontation with Avet. What if those stars, of which we’ve seen examples ranging from 3 pointed to 16(?) pointed, represent the path to power, divinity? I’m pretty sure The Geist in the lower sections of the Nagast Temple stated all territorial lords of the Nym empire had to be Paragons, so extremely powerful individuals were a lot more common back during the Great War.

Naaw! Felix is gonna be eatin' the Ruin! Duh!! Haven't you figured that out yet!?

David

Kinda wondering if Felix is actually just working up to be The Ruin.

Brent Thomas

As much as I like the series having Felix only able to evolve his skills in combat is rapidly becoming an overused trope. And now you're bringing Vess into the trope. I really would like this to stop.

Brad S

That will be a cool conversation, but honestly I'm way more excited to see the nigh invincible fiend, slayer of grandmasters and primordials, sweating bullets over meeting his girlfriend's dad.

Ben Cooper

As much as I want to see this shaping skill finally come together, I think I'm actually more interested to see Vess' conversation with her father in the aftermath. I want to see her touch on how her path as a dragoon has deviated, but more than that, I want Vess to talk to her dad about the boy who is leading them. No, she is not in command, that responsibility has actually been taken by another. He is a king thrice over, with whom she has a system-enforced connection, and whose skill evolution affected her own in the heat of battle. He is something more than human, referred to as a Fiend by his fanatic supporters and detractors alike. He is a kind man, who can tear through an army of adepts only to emerge stronger than he went in, with his hunger satiated. Oh, yeah, he eats people. And curses. And primordials. Aaaand, he's kind of courting her, and she wants her father's approval. I don't care if it's one conversation or three, I really want to see the ever-unflappable Vess seeking her father's approval of all the weird stuff in her life since she left home.

Aaron Schwartz

To be fair, I was complaining about TEMPERING mid battle. Not evolving a skill. I actually have much less to say about this, since the system did allow them to evolve the skills at a time of their choosing, Which is what I wanted. With that assurance them, actually choosing to do it during battle can just be put down to plot armor.

Tommy Littlefield

Really just want this big shaping skill to finally come together. This is what like the 4th big push he’s tried to make it work? The tease is getting old haha 😂

Anthony Brookes

Really appreciate the contrast you've shown in this chapter between Felix & Vess dealing with evolutions during fights, after that guy kept complaining about it, it wouldn't leave my mind. Tyttc, it was excellent as always
