BD - Chapter 229 - Bee Nice?
🕑 Added 2025-02-11 20:05:01 +0000 UTCBelissar clasped hands with Tarwantrad as she mentioned and thought about sending the First of the Fifth’s First Daughter’s Third Daughter to her. That…was a bit of a mouthful but the bees didn’t seem to mind so neither did Belissar.
He felt the Tower’s mana withdraw from the bee and for a moment regretted his decision, only for mana to connect to the stingless bees Tarwantrad provided him as well.

Belissar looked to the stingless hive, currently balled up around their queen. He guessed that, like Velebee previously, they were intimidated by his other bees, so he moved to introduce them and ease her concerns.
“Hi, I’m Belissar, welcome to my Tower! Let me introduce you to everyone and we’ll get you set up with a hive…they like beehouses, right?”
He glanced over at Tarwantrad, who nodded with a smile, before turning his attention back to the bee. Fortunately, it seemed to work as the queen crawled out of the ball and onto his hand. The Fourth of the Seventh and the First of Fifth’s First Daughter came to greet her. The queen seemed even more frightened than Velebee had been at that, but the Fourth of the Seventh was one of the friendliest queens in the Tower so Belissar figured it would work out.
His smile dropped, however, as he watched the First of the Fifth’s First Daughter’s dance with the new queen grow more intense…followed by all of his queens suddenly scrambling back to their hives. Niobee took off from his head and danced before him before he could ask what was wrong.
“King! New queen says new hive not as nice, queens want to prepare First of Fifth’s First Daughter’s Third Daughter! Can?”
Belissar’s eyes widened and he quickly nodded…before remembering he had technically transferred the bee over. He looked over to Tarwantrad. Her face was scrunched up but she nodded back. He gave the ok to Niobee then turned to Tarwantrad once Niobee zipped off to help coordinate the preparations.
“You know what’s going on?”
Tarwantrad made a complicated expression.
“I think I do. I was not as involved with my bees as you are with yours, I figured if I let them be they would live as they would out in nature. The thing is…nature can be brutal at times. My bees have fought with one another before…and even gone as far as war between hives.”
She suddenly jumped and quickly began waving her hands around.
“Ah! Don’t worry! I specifically told them not to harm the First of the Fifth’s First Daughter’ Third Daughter! I won’t let anything happen to your bees, Belissar! But…ah…the stingless queen might be right in that my bees don’t cooperate like yours do. So, please take all the time you need to prepare her to your satisfaction. Hm…I may need to rethink my approach going forward…”
Belissar thanked her and then refocused on his bees. They seemed to have it covered for the most part. The battle meadow queens were sending more soldiers to join the swarm, the First of the Fifth was speaking with her granddaughter and arranging more honey supplies, and the Fourth of the Seventh was preparing to go and help the young queen set up. Belissar double checked that with Tarwantrad and confirmed she intended to set up the First of the Fifth’s First Daughter’s Third Daughter in the flower nursery, so the Fourth of the Seventh could accompany her the whole way without issue.
Belissar then took a deep breath. He wanted to do more for the young queen, but his bees had already taken every practical step he could think of. And, well, ultimately he had to trust that Tarwantrad would watch over her. That was ultimately what it meant to transfer a monster over to another dungeon master.
He shook his head before he could have any second thoughts, but he did decide he would consider carefully before trading any more monsters. If it was this hard with Tarwantrad, how difficult would it be to trust any of the other masters with his bees?
He glanced over at the Third Daughter…who was currently spinning about thanking all the queens and zipping through the air. He cracked a smile, it seemed her enthusiasm wasn’t dampened in the least. That helped…quite a lot in fact.
But it was time to move on, for there was another queen who needed his help. After confirming all the preparations were completed or about to complete and that Tarwantrad could handle things from there, he turned his attention to the stingless queen, who was currently being escorted by Niobee. Niobee immediately noted his attention and began dancing.
“King! New queen will work with First of the Fifth’s First Daughter, so hive should be in Orchard!”
Belissar grinned. Niobee had gone and answered his question before he could ask, she really was the best.
“Got it, the beehouse is already ready so I’ll move it over. Shall we go check it out?”
The stingless queen acknowledged him with pheromones and mana while Niobee danced happily about and her whole swarm followed along. He was going to trust Tarwantrad with one of his bees, so he would do his best to take care of hers in turn.
He would have a talk with the new queen about violence between bees, however.

Tarwantrad led the First of the Fifth’s First Daughter’s Third Daughter to the beehouse she had prepared in the nursery room…along with her now much larger, much more well-supplied and heavily armed swarm. And the Fourth of the Seventh accompanying her, along with all the workers and soldiers that accompanied said queen.
She…had a lot to think about regarding her bees. It was one thing to let the bees be bees when the vast majority of them were mundane. But her stingless bees had recently become monsters…a fact that Tarwantrad had honestly overlooked. Even with plants, which were less active as a rule, the more complex monsters had to be handled with care and a level of involvement others did not require. She would never leave an alraune to their own devices, for example, so she may have been foolish in doing so with her monster stingless bees.
To hammer in the point, Belissar’s tower starkly demonstrated just how far monster bees could deviate from their instincts, especially if encouraged to do so. Tarwantrad herself had done something similar with her flowers, building networks of plants that worked together, but had completely left her bees to their own impulses. She hung her head at that thought. She now understood why the God of Bees had not approached her first. She had been content to leave her bees as they were. Belissar had striven to help them become better. She had a lot to learn, it seemed.
But this was no time for regrets. She was about to introduce a hive from Belissar’s Tower into her own, bringing two sets of wildly different bees into contact with one another. That was an event that had the potential to upset entire ecosystems and so one she could not ignore. She did not even want to imagine what a war between her bees and one of Belissar’s hives might look like, which is why she had already forbidden violence towards the new bee, in addition to her desire to fulfill Belissar’s trust in her. Still, that was only the bare minimum, she definitely needed to take a more active role in her bees’ affairs from now on.
She had wanted to ask Belissar about how he developed his hive of hives, but he also needed to get the stingless queen situated, so it would have to wait for tomorrow. And that meant at least one day that her bees and his could collide.
Still, it wasn’t all bad. Perhaps one of Belissar’s bees could prove an inspiration to her own, and the impetus for her to take a more active role among them. So long as she could prevent the monster bees and stingless bees from colliding that was…or perhaps as long as she could manage the damage if a clash proved unavoidable.
She arrived at the beehouse and opened it up. Knowing how large some of Belissar’s bees could get, she built it like one of his Bee Apartments.
“What do you think?”
The First of the Fifth’s First Daughter’s Third Daughter and the Fourth of the Seventh wasted no time zipping inside and hovering around every inch of the apartment, while the workers checked every nook and cranny and the soldiers set up a perimeter outside. Tarwantrad’s new queen then zipped back to her and began looping around.
“Amazing! Incredible! Is like King’s hives! Flower One is best flower one!”
Tarwantrad smiled at that, setting aside her concerns for the moment.
“I’m glad you like it. Please, let me know if there’s anything your king normally does that I’ve overlooked.”
As Tarwantrad watched the queens and workers buzz around and begin settling into the hive, she resolved to ensure everything would work out between her bees and, at the bare minimum, to keep Belissar’s bees as happy as they would be back in his Tower. For more than one reason, as she also watched the large soldier bees begin a vigilant watch on the walls and roof of their new home…

Obviously you should have been putting maximum effort into making the bees happy, flower one. This is why you are not best dungeon master. Still, better late than never, so we’ll hold off on demoting you to silly non-bee. For now. Depending on if keep the First of the Fifth’s First Daughter’s Third Daughter happy.
As a side note, I found myself agreeing with those of you like phantom and GrandSageGrand who think we should keep the mouthful names as is. Makes more sense for the story and for the bees, may also be the case of a naming scheme that works a lot better for the bees but doesn’t translate well into silly non-bee speech. Twas a silly non-bee mindset of me to question the glorious names of the bees in the first place! So, you know, we won’t adjust them unless adjustments organically emerge through the story. The Third Daughter of the First Daughter of the First Queen of the First Dynasty of the Fifth Spawner, the third of her line, is here to stay!

While I agree that the long bee names should stay, I think that queen 1513 should have a proper name as the very first queen to change dungeons and act as a diplobee to the flower ones hives.

Thanks for the chapter! I really dont blame Tarwantrad for not interfering with the monster bees. most of her monsters are not as intelligent as the monster bees are so she couldn't have expected it unless she REALLY lookied into it. I see it as Hive inscects gain increased intellegence thru evolution as to make the nomicaticary of of "Queens" of the hives more realisitc, making that so Monster bees should be treated more like other more intellegent monsters like goblins or koblods, that make tribes. All in all, 3rd Daughter along with Belissars Help, and tips whould allow Tarwarntrad, to build her own hive of hives for her tower. and with Bellissars help the to hive of hives can trade and be friendilt to each other and then create THE HIVE OF HIVES OF HIVES!

Suggestion as an apology have Flower one. Send a queen or whatever is needed for the solo bees of each none magic type to King. This will also free up space for Third Daughter to insert her Hive into the vacuum left behind easier.

They couldn't beat that one hive of tenthousand monster bees. And they also got reinforcments from the other hives until they are established. They stand no chance.

Isn't it possible that the Oracle also evolves into a monster bee queen? She wasn't born in the dungeon, but since all other queens seem to have the potential to evolve naturally, without tower assistance, she should be able to do this too, right?

Thanks for the chapter. Loved it. So yeah, 1st of 5th, 1st daughter's, 3rd daughter will be fine in the new home. Worse that could happen is she's forced to conquer the rival queen. Best case scenario she makes some friends and uplifts them into the hive of hives truly linking belissar's and tarwantrad's towers. While I like the naming it does get a tad confusing at this point. Not really sure how to solve that tho. Perhaps instead of specifying which queen new queens are born from we could use the apartment or barrack as part of their name. Like 5th barracks born queen or 2nd apartment born of apartment B. Lol

This hurts my brain I understand it after rereading it a few times but there are ways to make it clear at first glance. Though don't change it if you think its better off how it was or if its just my inability to understand some things at first glance. "to keep Belissar’s bees as happy as they would be back in his Tower." -Just makes it seem like the bees weren't transferred but they were

I love the mouthful, while I advocated against it I personally do prefer it and am excited to see it stay Belissar could definitely force any potential tower keeper to come to his tower and undergo a course in beekeeping with a variety of bees, starting at the regular magical honeybees that the oracle will produce. Though that brings up a separate question, will the Oracle produce regular honeybees? Or will they be imbued with faith energy or something now. Regardless, back to my main point, prospective beekeepers could undergo a bit of teaching from belissar, and then begin novice beekeeping with the honeybees, before moving up further and further into the more esoteric and difficult bees, and only at some arbitrary point where belissar is confident that any bee evolution the tower keeper could get would at least get adequate care if not excellent care Perhaps he gets an idea for this when Tarwantrad mentions that she hasn't taken as active a role in caring for her bees as she would like, and would like tips herself

You'd think Tarwantrad would consider how one sided that fight would be. All her bees together could not beat that one hive.

The really long names feel like actual royal titles, so fit the queens quite well.
