This worries me after going back through the comic again. I know upthread I commented that this woman is a MeeMaw type, but after Mr Omerhan's fate in #66 and the casual threat of flogging for making fun of gaurdsmen who have trouble reading, I remembered this is a medieval setting. MeeMaw likely sees Kass as a pet or mascot, the way we would look at a monkey or dog dressed in a military uniform. But from the way all the other Red Cloaks treat Kass, the badge and gold collar represent the authority of the Trade master delegated to Kass as an officer. In most of the world, until just a couple of centuries ago, striking a superior officer was a serious offence that often carried the death penalty. Kass' double take and horrified "WHY!?" expression may not be for herself. It may be for the old lady who just bought herself a world of hurt.
