Not gonna lie, I was totally expecting a page where we see Elim get stabbed. I just realized that Kass may not even be able to train to fight as a Yinglet as it may upset the some of the Patriarchs to see a female fighting. So he's double screwed.

To be fair, Kass' inner monologue didn't describe his weapon as the only thing he could rely on - he described it as "one of a shrinking number of things I can still rely on." It IS possible he no longer counted Elim as one of those things, due to Elim not handling the whole "cracking open another person's skull" thing verywell, however. If so, he'll be proven wrong long before they reach Val Salia.

I don't think I can really express how much I love this comic <3 Kass is wrong tho. The one thing he could always rely on wasn't his weapon. It was Elim. His best friend, always at his side

So basically both Kass and Elim are textbook PTSD victims and are trying like hell to conceal it from each other... and both have just had traumas of one sort or another to reawaken it. How did Hemingway put it... "Good storytelling: Make sympathetic characters. Then hurt them."

Kass is now experiencing the trauma of awakening from a dream of reliving trauma wherin he reached for his safety blanket only to find that comfort lost to him. I sure hope somebody has invented therapy, and therapists. If not, the really ought to do that.
