The intense staring is probably what set them off. It's interesting to note that when Kass and Vislet did this, they just kept smeking each other and "eeeeee”ing until the gaurds showed up. Zally and Katajack aren't eeeeeing and neither one of them has landed a hit yet. Which I think means that they actually do this pretty often. Neither of them are stressed enough by it to instinctively call for help and they're familiar enough with each other's moves that they're avoiding each other's opening strikes.
