I like Merr's response here. It shows respect, believe it or not. The Head Surgeon was asked for an honest opinion from an officer, so he gave it without sugar coating it or trying to couch it in diplomatic terms. His job depends in part on giving honest opinions to those who ask. I'm also getting Lenoard McCoy and Doc Cottle vibes here. A Military Chief Surgeon should be an irascible grump.
