I have gotten really good at it, but sometimes I still try to hold onto stuff pretty clingy. I forgot some clothes in s little town here about a week ago and it has been an seemingly impossible mission to get them back. It was one pair of shorts that are worthless to me, one period underwear which I want back bc they are expensive and one short I got gifted from a friend which.. I love and want back. So I have been trying god knows what to retrieve them but its so hard to coordinate anything with people hear. No data no nothing, I mean heck I haven’t even seen electricity or running water the past.. week now? So I am not surprised😭 But still. I have already accepted them maybe not coming back home with me and am at peace, but at first I was stressed. Too stressed honestly haha. I think its partly because I LOVE the clothes I have and don’t buy any since a long time now, so I like to keep mine with me. But also my head has been all over this week and I have been more forgetful. And havent given up yet!
Today, me and daniel are couchsurfing. We made it to the capital, port moresby! Yet.. we are hardcore budgeting again and fond ourselves AGAIN in some village with no electricity (currently charging my phone with the last % of my laptop while daniel is already asleep🥲), drunk everywhere, 1 hour of data so i’m speed typing this lol to make sure I post!, no running water and a tiny mattress for us to share. One thing about traveling together is you really really get to know the other person. And whilst sometimes you annoy each other, you also grow a friendship with this person you share so many experiences or moments with. Its sooo beautiful !! I love hosting my grouptrips for that reason, people getting to experience these connections (talking grouptrips.. who wants to come to south africa with me this upcoming JUNE?! I got ONE dropout🤭 that I havent posted on my IG yet!).
Port Moresby is our last and probably the most dangerous stop of the journey. My experience in PNG truly was remarkable, and I will return. Yet I am aware that this country comes with its risks and it shouldnt be taken lightly traveling here. But totally a worth exploring.. for now, enough tho. I always say.. I‘m not afraid (which I‘m really not. Remember, your thoughts create your reality) yet I‘m always cautious and extremely aware of my surroundings. I dont do things that would be stupid to do in an area. I dont drink. But I have also stepped into potholes and certainly learned my lessons quickly. Traveling IS a skill and I have noticed myself strongly improving and developing that skill over the years. You gotta know how you travel and where you go - no matter how extreme and difficult it is - 99% of time it is up to you if you can make a safe trip happen there. Dont overdo it and overestimate your skills. PNG was a little test for myself for places such as west africa and so on, yet I can confidently say: although i am ready to go home now (probably because christmas at home is genuinely the BEST time out of the whole year), I feel confident in the next category of countries on my travel list… some more difficult destinations. Although I say I don’t plan - which is true, as most people would consider planning accomondations, transportation etc - I plan different stuff. In these places you can‘t plan transportation and accommodation ahead anyways if you want to do it my style. BUT what I do plan is .. safety, regions, information, research. Every country has different laws so it is also important to get familiar with some of them. What would be your bucket lost Country, I am curious :)

Ah, Leo, but you do live your life after these statistics. If you remember, it was your approach to developing related travel skills got my attention. Traveling PNG with Daniel and being wary of Port Moresby are examples of that. The mosquito thing, though, could use a little more attention. I can't count the number of missionaries I know who have contracted malaria. At least one with two different strains. She thought they were the same and couldn't get 'it' again. Icaridin and pyrethroids are safer, effective alternatives to DEET. And you said you use an antimalarial drug. That doesn't work on dengue or chagas, though, as one of my friends discovered. So, security, mosquito control, and water hygiene are things you do, but can continue to work on, and share.

Ah Rex... whilst those statistics are probably true, if I were to live my life after these statistics my journey would have probably already ended LOL. the universe got me!! And I do too;)

Guess the most dangerous animal on the planet: Great White Shark, Polar Bear, Cape Buffalo, Human. In 2023 conflict deaths and murders numbered 562,000 globally. The other 3 are attributed with about 213 deaths in 2023, 200 to Cape Buffalo alone. The worst killer, though, is the mosquito, with up to 1,000,000 deaths per year due to disease. Use DEET and malaria prophylactic drugs, and steer clear of violent people, most generally in cities.

PNG journey was very cool! I love the candid writing. My bucket list country might be Japan for the food. If you ever do a group trip in the US or its territories I might sign up :)
