A Happy Update
🕑 Added 2020-07-12 23:17:28 +0000 UTCIn unbelievable developments I was mentioning offhand to Max that I needed to make time to bring the kids to visit my grandparents. They live close to her place up north, and it’s a bit of a drive, she immediately invited us to visit and stay with her.
I was surprised, she’s not a “kid person”, and our relationship never had any of these family-crossover expectations. Not for a second. But the lockdown has changed that, they’ve gotten to know each other, she’s been invited into aspects of my life that would have been kept separate otherwise. And now the plan has ballooned into this epic 3 day sleepover getaway!
She’s taking us to the lake, she’s taking us to the drive in (the kids have never been!) and she’s taking us to a drive-through ice cream shop that sells my favourite black cherry dessert. She’s got video games and fun planned out. I’m shaking my head smiling when she texts me out of the blue to confirm everyone’s favourite snacks so she can stock her cupboards for us. Of course the pup can come, she says, of course.
Monday
“But we won’t be able to fuck, you know that right?”
“Of course I know that, it’ll be good for us to get out of bed for once,” she smiles and reassures me.
Wednesday
“Parenting 24/7 is a lot, are you sure you’re up for this?”
“I can handle it, and it won’t be so bad, we’re gonna have fun,” she smiles and reassures me.
Thursday
“You don’t have to do this, it’s so much!”
“I want to do this,” she smiles and reassures me.
Saturday
“There’s going to be stressful parts, it’s unavoidable.”
“It’ll be worth it, we’ve got this,” she smiles and reassures me.
Sunday
“You better rest up, I’m about to crash my whole life into your quiet house.”
“I can’t wait,” she smiles and reassures me.
And I can’t wait either. She loves me exactly how I am, all the parts of me, with confidence. And the kids are so excited to finally have a change of scenery. And my grandparents can’t wait for our visit. And we checked the drive-in schedule today, guess what? They’re playing The Addams Family movie from the 90’s. Fitting because Max often says she’s my Gomez Addams kind of love. I don’t know what I did capture her heart and deserve this kind of love but my god is it good, she lights me up.
Thanks for understanding that the next couple days will be quiet around here while we’re adventuring together, can’t wait to tell you all about our little escape.
With love,
-Heart
P.S. The teeny tiny yellow dried rose is from the gorgeous bouquet she sent me on a really hard day. I dried a few of them as reminders of her good magic.
