NWA can sort of be thought of as a European Union of wrestling. It was an organization that multiple wrestling promotions were part of, and there was one world champion who would travel to all the promotions. WWE used to be part of the NWA as the promotion in the new york region. But then Vince took over from his dad and started expanding nationally outside of their designated territory, and they made all the other NWA companies (like the one the Von Erichs worked for in Texas) go out of business.
