Because only the little swimming sperm is in the testicles, there is another part in the male body that creates the fluid to help keep the sperm alive long enough to go deep inside the female to reproduce. Sperm is the male reproductive cell and is only a component of semen. Sperm don't stay alive that long so the fluid helps protect them, if I remember correctly, during impregnation the acidic environment in the vagina kills the remaining sperm that haven't reached the egg, so the fluid also protects against that.
