Franek, Forever — A Mini Polish Lesson in Love. Day twenty two!!
🕑 Added 2025-12-22 23:02:19 +0000 UTCToday, I’m sharing an ornament I made for my parents’ “choinka” — Polish for Christmas tree. A red paper chain, simple and handmade, holding a single “bańka” (ornament). Just one, to symbolize the space he left in our hearts.
This is Franek — my childhood dog, the sweetest dog anyone could have asked for, and our constant presence begging for some "karp" (carp) beneath the Christmas Eve table. This is our first Christmas without him. I cried today thinking of his warmth at my feet, his loyalty! Every day he’s missed, but especially today in my heart.
We’ll open gifts on December 24th — “Boże Narodzenie” (Christmas Day) — and I can’t wait to see my parents’ faces. I’ll tell you how they like it! :) I've already asked them to video call me so I can see their faces!! They'll cry like babies, for sure. Tough exteriors, mushy gushy insides. (Where do you think I get it from?? xD)
Today, I invite you to remember who you’re grateful for — those still here, and those who live on in memory and love. Franek now runs through fields of geese in my heart, barking with joy, forever part of us.
And I look forward to the day I can love a dog again — and when I do, his name will be Frank. 🐾
