That is interesting!
The fur color change reminds me of a StarFox fan fic I read back when I was into fan fiction. In the story Fox ended up on Krystals home planet. She has some designs/tattoos on her fur and the take on tattoos was that the fur was shaved to the skin in the design that was desired and then the ink in the tattoo was done up in the color desired and also had a drug to accelerate fur growth added in as well. Tattoo was applied like any tattoo normally but the fur would take the color of the ink and apparently would burn badly as the fur grew back rapidly.
