They've made a bunch of changes from the original anime, most of which I think are pretty good changes. Really focused the story more on Vash and his brother Knives, which really came pretty late in the original show (as I remember it).
Plus Meryle is a real cutie in the remake.

I may well have to check that out. Honestly, Trigun's one of those rare cases where I thought the anime was better than what I read of the manga (that "what I read of" qualifier is important - maybe it wound up getting better, but I opted to simply cut my losses and stop reading it), so I'm actually hoping this is more a reimagining of the anime than a direct adaptation of the manga. Or, even better, something that takes the best parts of each.

I think they have a better grasp on some of the characters this time around than just "add more humour" or maybe its just they have a better overall plan for the series from start to end.
