Aaren Color Practice
🕑 Added 2023-03-04 04:52:04 +0000 UTCI can really let the rendering get away from me sometimes. One of these renders went WAY faster (granted, I had done it several times by that point, but still). It's often true that less is more, but it's hard to hold myself to that sometimes.
So which version do you like better? The elaborate shading or the simpler cel-shaded style?

Cap E. Bara
The first/elaborate shading is nicer. Does it take much longer to do?
Grumpy Guy
First image of the two. As they all keep telling me when painting miniatures "Higher highlights, deeper shadows."
Ben
You do, and I'm a fan of those! It could be part of where that association came into my brain.
Lucien Nailo
I'm with the majority of other comments. The elaborate shading is my favorite.
Paqs
I like the elaborate shading better
Lord of Nightmares
I think the highlights on Aaren's skin and weapon are best int he first pic, but the more subdued clothing works better from the second, more like cloth than leather.
Garth Graham
Ha. I might want to change up the rendering on that cheek. Again.
Hydra Bomb
I like the cel shade, but they both look great. It's really just preference.
Garth Graham
I mean, I do make webcomics. XD
Aaron Bredon
The elaborate version looks better on close examination, but at first look, I asked "where did she get the black eye?"
Josh Stories
I like the first one better.
Ben
As a stand alone piece I prefer the first one. The second one looks more "web comic" to me.
Walter Manbeck
The first as there looks to be more definition to the top layer of clothing. In the second it all blends together.
