Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 4K 1.3.1 Patreon Release
🕑 Added 2021-05-16 07:00:02 +0000 UTCHi all Patrons! Today marks the Patreon release of yet another update to Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 4K. It includes over 80 new textures, covering both UI, environment, characters and more. It also includes the awesomly smooth 60 FPS mode! Please see the rest of the added features below;
This update is large and adds a ton of new 4K textures, and it also includes a 60 FPS patch for the first time in Ocarina of Time 3D. Other improvements include tons of configuration changes, shader changes and other general bug fixes as well as much more!
This was posted in the last update's post as well, but as a reminder (or if this is your first time using Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 4K), Here are the default key bindings for using the bottom screen with your controller;
- D-Pad Up: Free Cam (First Person View)
- D-Pad Left: Ocarina
- D-Pad Right: Item Slot 1
- D-Pad Down: Item Slot 2
- Select: Items Menu
- Left Joystick Button: Gear
- Right Joystick Button: Map
You may need to set these bindings again on your own controller in case Citra does not recognize it automatically. Simply double click the input button for each respective button and press the corresponding button on your controller and you should be good to go!
This should make the game much more enjoyable, especially if you're playing on a TV where you definitely don't want to be switching around between different controllers mid-action.
4K User Interface is further improved!
Like in the last update, the user interface is still being remade. This patch includes many new textures for the user interface. This update also covers some of the less common menus like the master mode / normal mode selection screen, the ocarina menu and the various numbers present next to item counters and the like. I'm doing steady progress on completely remaking the UI, so perhaps by the next update everything should be complete! No promises though ;)
New maps!
Almost ALL the maps in the game have been vectorized (yes, I vectored them) and upscaled to at least 4 time the original resolution. The maps were one of the last relics of the UI that still looked really bad, since it was really difficult to upscale them without making them muddy or pixelated no matter how hard I tried. This ensures that the maps retain a high quality, and it's also future proof in case any of the maps need to be increased in resolution even further or altered slightly.
4K flowers and various foliage!
This is something which was missing from OOT3D 4K for way too long, in my opinion. Since foliage is so common in the game, it really sticks out whenever you encounter it. I've not retextured all the foliage yet, but a lot of it has been redone already (with some assets crossed from Majora's Mask 4K. How convenient!).
Lake Hylia revamp!
Various textures in Lake Hylia have been remade and improved. Not much else to say about that.
Kakariko Village upgraded!
Kakariko Village has a new completely remade sign, pillars, roof tiles and brick walls!
4K Sand!
Sand in the Gerudo and Wasteland areas is now... 4K. Yay!
Misc. HD rocks, vines etc!
There are several miscellaneous textures that have been reworked too, like the rocks in Kokiri Forest for example. This should hopefully make the world a little bit more detailed in all kinds of areas.
Glorious 60 FPS!

This is arguably an even greater upgrade available in this update than any of the textures. The 60 FPS patch is a first-time feature for Ocarina of Time 3D, and makes the game display in a buttery smooth 60 frames per second instead of the usual 30. This makes the game not just nicer to look at, but also makes it more responsive and reduces input lag. However, this feature is still in beta and has a few workarounds (you need to perform some special actions in certain instances to avoid the game from softlocking, for example. Instructions and more information is provided with the download!) Since the 60 FPS mode isn't quite ready for prime time yet, it's included as an optional special version which you can use if you're feeling adventurous (and don't mind doing a little bit of manual work!) The instructions are, like stated previously, included with the download. Have fun! :]
Selecting your game region (if you're using the PAL/European or Japanese version of the game);
All you need to do now, if you're using the European version of Ocarina of Time 3D, click the "Run this if you're using the PAL (European) version of the game.bat" file inside the texture pack folder. Done! It'll now work great with your version of the game. Easy, right?
How to enable MXAO (ambient occlusion):
This means you can now experience glorious self shadowing around objects, which looks really great with OOT's fantasy art style. Try it out by doing the following:
* Set your game view to "Single" in Citra.
* Set your resolution to 10x in the Graphics Settings in Citra.
* Press the "HOME" button on your keyboard, this will bring up the ReShade UI.
* Check the "MXAO" box in the list of effects.
* Go to the "Advanced" tab in ReShade and check the box next to the depth buffer in the list with the highest value (it should be a very high number while all others are 0). This number will change constantly, but don't worry it's supposed to do that!

The Update is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published!
There is a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it. It's a large file, over 7GB so beware of that before you download it! The 1080p version is smaller in file size, but doesn't look quite as nice. You can download both and test which one works best for you, if you want! :)

(Only available for use with the Citra 3DS emulator, the texture pack does not work on real 3DS consoles).

Does anyone know why the download keeps failing for me? It only gets about 400 megabytes into the download every time, then it either says Network Error or Forbidden

Hi Dylan! Yes you're correct, this is a simple mistake on my end. I forgot to update the title text to dispaly "4K" instead of "HD" in the 4K version specifically. This has been fixed in the 1.3.2 version and beyond!
After installing the 4K version on Linux by copying the files from `user` to my Citra directory (~/.local/share/citra-emu) the title screen says HD instead of 4K. I'm sure it is the 4K textures though because the directory that contains the textures is 7.6 GiB. After installing Majora's Mask 1.3a the same way it properly displays as 4K on the title screen so it seems to just be Ocarina of Time that displays the wrong title screen text. I probably shouldn't even worry about it though because it's using the 7.6 GiB textures directory from the 4K download so I'm sure everything else is right even if the title screen is wrong. Anyway, it's a great texture pack and it looks incredible so thank you for making it.

Hi Fernando! Unfortunately HD font in Ocarina of Time 3D is not yet possible due to fundamental limitations in how the fonts have been implemented into the game. I've been working on a way to bypass these limitations for some months now but I've not found a way to upscale the font just yet. I hope you understand! I will of course include 4K font as soon as we figure out how to.

You can see a short demo in the installation guide linked in the post! The pack is roughly 80% complete, and what remains is mostly interiors and later dungeons. Yes it can matter quite a lot, I highly recommend that you put the texture pack high up (i.e Documents) on your fastest hard drive for optimal performance! Your PC should be able to handle it just fine :)

Can you post a demo of 60 FPS + Ambient Occlusion and revamped textures? How far is the pack in total? Does it matter if you put the pack and/or Citra on the same OS Disk / SSD? Downloading now, not sure if my PC can handle the 10X: AMD Radeon RX 580 Core i5 9600K @ 3.70 Ghz 16GB RAM
