TUTORIAL // artistic roadblocks
🕑 Added 2025-06-05 12:19:44 +0000 UTCTime for a new tutorial ✨ This one is on Artistic Roadblocks! A roadblock is anything that brings your creativity to a standstill, including art block, burnout and drawing-related injuries. I've had my fair share of experiences with these, and in this video, I'll be sharing my story as well as all the tips and advice that I can give! I got so many questions about drawing-related injuries in my Q&A sessions that I felt it was time to put together a more comprehensive resource. This video is all about how you can learn from these experiences, and which healthy habits you can implement to get past them and hopefully prevent them in the future!
Next to this tutorial video, I also put together a worksheet pack! It implements principles from this video, so it's helpful to watch the video first. The worksheet can then help you to self-reflect and pinpoint the issues you can work on! It's attached to the bottom of this post.

Here's a cheat sheet with the most important information from the video - you can also find a PDF version with clickable links attached to this post!

Here are some additional tutorials I've made in the past that would be a great supplement to this one:
Creating an artistic routine: this video is about how you can set artistic goals and implement them into a steady, manageable routine. It's also about how you can balance your drawing time with other activities. It's a great supplement to this tutorial and I mention it a lot!
Imposter syndrome: this video is about how imposter syndrome can manifest for artists, and gives tips and advice for how to deal with these negative emotions.
Simple exercises for when you are short on energy, time, or inspiration: This is a good resource for those of you who are struggling with artblock, or aren't sure how to make the best use of your drawing time. It gives a range of exercise suggestions for each scenario!
A roadmap for artistic growth: This video is about what an artistic journey looks like, and how you can focus on building different skills at different stages. It can be helpful for those of you who want to zoom out and look at the overall artistic journey, rather than just the roadblocks on their own.
I hope you enjoy this video ! Feel free to share any future tutorial suggestions in the #tutorial-suggestions channel in the discord server (If you don't know how to join, just follow the steps outlined here) or leave them in a comment below ❤

About the mind-body connection- there is plenty of scientific basis for what u said. Myth of Normal by Gabor Mate shows this as well as “The body keeps the score” - the brain is a part of our body so it’s only natural that our mind will affect our body.

Lois. One of your great qualities is that you are humble and willing to be vulnerable. (in your art and your tutorials). That is certainly on display in this video. I'm glad that you've found solutions that work for you. You always seem to be coming from a sincere place in trying to help others. As a Physical Therapist I can assure you that the ergonomic principles you outlined are sound. (Joints tend to be happy in neutral positions)-don't let the haters cast doubt there. Strength training is another underutilized important intervention to maintain good posture, work against the effects of gravity and maintains balance. Thanks for your instruction and constant inspiration.

I'm so sorry to hear that Eve! You're not alone and these things can take so much longer than we ever anticipated. But healing is possible! I hope the worksheet can help you in your healing process :)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and tips. I've hit a serious roadblock which stopped me from creating for three years straight. I'm currently in the process of going out of the rut and your insights make me very hopeful. I will definitely be using the cheat sheet to help myself work through the struggles! ❤️
