To better serve you, I'd like to have an idea of where each of you are in terms of skill level. This can be difficult to determine, so please choose the option that fits you best. The results of this poll will be used in the planning of future lessons. Thanks!
Notes: I define regular practice as 1-2hrs of playing each day. It is possible to reach advanced skill levels in a short amount of time, here are my tips to do so:
1) Practice more - Five hours a day to reach expert level within five years. Remember, becoming the next Stevie Ray Vaughan is not everyone's goal, and that's okay! But this is what it takes to get there.
2) Improve the quality of your practice - Set goals, and see them to fruition.
3) Relax - Stress is a retention killer, so don't worry about improving when you play, just have fun and stay on task.
4) Diversify your practice - Jam with friends, record, exercise with a metronome, write original songs.

I have been playing for a little over two years and trying to pick up my guitar every day. I would love to have a proper focussed practice routine that I can do daily. Right now I am kind of all over the place with no specific routine. I also wanted to tell you that I think you Are the best teacher on the net. I never in 1000 years I would be able to play things like the lead solo in “till there was you“ by the Beatles … And that is thanks to you Rob and your wonderful teaching technique.
Love this poll. Managing expectations makes a difference and helps motivation. It's great having your benchmark as a way of keeping things in perspective.

I think you need "playing for over 2o years and still pretty much suck" (never give up)
Thanks for the update Robert. Sitting down a half hour a day for a power session is good, but you really want to shoot for an hour. I recommend keeping the guitar out and within arms reach so that you can sneak a few strums in here and there throughout the day. I find spacing my practice out leads to greater retention. Keep me posted on your progress.
I am an absolute beginner. I have started 1/2 hour a week private lessons and spend about 1/2 hour a day practice on acoustic guitar. 1/2 hour is about what I can manage at this point as I am still building up my finger skills. I will retire from my current job in a few years and want to possibly play in church. I like your teaching method.
