On the upside I'm confident that I know how to print the rim in such way that when it fails, it won't be due to the print process itself. I'm really looking forward to posting that video and we've some fun parts in it to spice it up a bit.

Interesting link, thanks! Annealing would be a cool option. I think that the current design and optimized print settings are going to work :D

Hi Jon, what about annealing the rim? There are some academic references about annealing ABS around 105-107C. e.g. https://agsci-labs.oregonstate.edu/openslab/2018/05/18/2018-5-18-annealing-for-abs-plastic-parts/ You would need to account for some shrinkage, but overall I believe/hope/pray the final part would be stronger?
Thanks! These are some good points. Fortunately ABS is not hygroscopic and I've used the leftover filament from that rim which was all from the same manufacturer. But I honestly didn't think about those variables. This shows how many variables there are😅
Really looking forward to this video! I've been sometimes disappointed in the past with layer adhesion or print strength as well, and in addition to print settings, I noticed that humidity of the filament and manufacturer or type can also make a night and day difference despite identical settings.
