Just so you know Mortius, the cast for the last two songs is different from the Broadway cast, except for Andre De Shields (hermes)

Also: yes the stage rotates! It’s so good! The staging on this musical is *incredible*—it would be amazing to see you react to some of the other live recordings of the show. The first “Wait for Me” has this amazing choreography with swinging lights. “Wait for Me (Reprise)” does beautiful powerful things with the rotating stage (and you have to see the choreography between Hades and Persephone for that one!!). I would kill for a pro-shot of this musical, I swear /hj Super excited to see your rewatch that you mentioned at the end!!

This musical is a hymn to resilience and resistance and hope. I encountered it in summer 2021 and listened to the soundtrack on repeat, because it was so timely and powerfully comforting even in the tragedy of it. *Because* of the tragedy of it. “Times are hard” and yet how important and valuable it is to “see the way the world could be, in spite of the way that it is.” To push back against those in power who say there is no hope and no point (“who are they to say what the truth is anyway?” “With each together, we are stronger than we know - we are stronger than THEY know”). To sing the sad songs anyway and hope that something could be different this time—because even that does make a difference, even if you don’t succeed in one goal you can still make an impact on people and society and the world, just by the act of striving and standing up and raising your voice. I have so many feelings about this musical and it was a joy to watch your journey with it, brought back all my Hadestown feelings anew right in time for another cycle of stressful hard times. Time for me to listen to “if it’s true” and “road to hell (reprise)” and “epic iii” and “we raise our cups” on repeat again.

At the end of Road to Hell Reprise, what’s happening is they’re singing the song again—it’s a return to the beginning of the story, another retelling (hence the “anybody got a match? Gimme that” and Eurydice being back in her clothes from the beginning of the show), and so Orpheus showing up and seeing Eurydice is the first time they’ve seen each other, again.

In the original myth, he can’t even hear her footsteps behind him. I think whether they’re “allowed” to use sound or not, he just can’t hear her for whatever mythical/mystical/underworld reason (also because shades don’t have substance enough for footsteps I guess? But that doesn’t apply here where Eurydice leaping onto the rotating stage track is a percussive element incorporated into the music).

Bell's last comment on Doubt Comes In was a year ago! Come on, friends! Let's go support these precious artists. <3 When you see the pupper eating, uh... something, I believe the big black shape was his intimidating shadow but I could be wrong. The Fates do annoy me too, because they either plant seeds of doubt, or represent the thoughts we all have about ourselves. Pers and Hades trying again is everything, I always love that part the most. I often wonder: if Orpheus had sprinted along the road, eager to get to the end as fast as possible, would Eurydice have been able to keep up and follow? Could they have had a happy ending if he just ran to the end?

If u put it at max volume and are wearing headphones you might be able to JUST about hear it but my headphones could be different to yours. Glad I wasn't the only one though!
Kory Misun
I couldn't hear it at all.
