The slowdown of the strings right before Eurylochus returns is actually signifying that time has passed. He still returned quicker than expected but was gone for longer than the 5 seconds in the song.

me an my girlfriend had the same reaction to circe saga, where we were not huge fans at launch and the more we have listened to it, the more we give it the respect it deserves. I completely agree with your analysis on why it didn't feel as good as it should have when it released
