I will NEVER get over Jon's phsyical acting AND vocals in this. It can be awful to sing while sitting and leaning back bc it compresses your diaphragm, but he hits that IM NOT A LOSER so gorgeously. And he really acts and looks so terrified. That fall was AWESOME
Marco Jones
The fact that Mortius DIDN'T go back to appreciate Jon's belt in "I'M NOT A LOSER" killlllled me
Bub
What a great ending! Weird of them to put a whole hour of credits though.. But oh well đ€·
Evan Moran
Just realized how much Jeff Blim energy Max is giving. Also, something about the absolute disgust on Kim's face duing Go Go Nighthawks sends me every time
jackie jasmine
Ah yes, I forgot npmd has an actual ending đ
DPMAN
Yas I really love the Animation they did! Unsure on what Spoilers there are however as I don't see any in the Animation
Rex Saltus
Hey Mortius, I loved your reaction to the show so far and I'm leaving this hear since its an animation for the Second half of "Nerdy Prudes Must Die" the song, it does contain slight spoilers for some things so I would recommend watching it After finishing the show, but I think it would be really cool anyways. It's about 2-3 minutes and the artist is ThirdChildArt https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNRhHuvgY/
Max
i'm FEENING for more
S.E.W.
5:03 "I'm desperately going to need a fourth show across the hatchetverse" Mortius nightmare time is calling your name!! /lighthearted
Kory Misun
Maybe Richie doesn't actually sweat too much biologically. I bet he sweats because he wears three outfits at once. When he's telling Peter to go for Ruth 'cause she's thirsty, there are direct references to The Guy. Melissa asks Paul if he wants to join the company baseball league. Paul and Peter say 'Yeah, I don't want to, though.' Ted and Richie both say to their friends 'You're effing useless, Paul/Pete.' I recommend the soundtrack version of Go Nighthawks! for the amazing harmonies between Curt and Corey. Peak Jock Friendship. Your Nat 1 for Zeke the Nighthawk is a lot of fun, but Max is only angry at a select few people and the football team pretty much did whatever he said. :P Wish he'd gone back to his house and dealt with his dad. Call him a cuck for once, Max! I'd cheer for that. When Richie says 'Eff Clivedale, eff 'em straight to hell!' he's directly quoting Paul and I think that's sweet.
Kory Misun
It's amazing and sad that he said it with so much confidence. He really believed in himself, however briefly.
Reshia Winfield
Honestly once the TGWDLM revamp comes out on Youtube, Mortius should react to it and see the new changes lol
oh no elizabeth
I remember seeing someone describe Dirty Girl as "unfortunately a banger" which is so accurate imo
Daniel Wilson
-referring to the line about Pete looking like the Homeless Guy- âIs that a reference to TGWDLM?â Oh⊠oh, Mortius⊠thereâs supplemental material to watch
Llexica
Since you saw it live how effective was the remote door slam Max does during NPMD in person? I feel like it's kind of lack luster in the recording and the real impact is lost. I imagine that being such a cool thing to experience irl in the theatre! Did they only slam that one door or all of them?
Katie Young
I was thinking that wondering if it's following the lord's in black. Is the colours making the lord's that are part of it?
ŚŚŚȘŚ Ś§ŚŚšŚ
She's also mentioned in Black Friday! She's Tim's usual babysitter in that one.
Ink Inc
âitâs not the musicals that invoke the colors, itâs the forces behind hatchetfieldâ is an A+ fan theory and I will be adopting it now.
Ink Inc
Ig but Thatâs not really how spoilers work. I mean, I didnât forget my first time watching it + building tension is just as effective a twist.
KriszGamer00
Doesn't it sound familiar? Pete: "Yeah...I don't want to though.." Richie: "..You're fucking useless Pete!" *In another universe* Paul: "Yeah..I don't want to though.." ----separate scene--- Ted: "...You're fucking useless Paul!" How the tables have turned!!
D. Sparrow
The hard commitment to the bit is really great halfway in I was like wow you usually break by now
Sunayama
Act 1 ended with the "It's Nightmare Time" leitmotif, that we first heard in TGWDLM (especially in the song "Not Your Seed"), in some parts of Black Friday's background tracks, and in Nightmare Time's opening theme. It's a nice touch! EDIT Act 2 has a totally different vibe from the rest of the Hatchetfield musicals. It feels like a story from Nightmare Time finally clawed and scraped its way into the more light-hearted musicals. So if you're even a little curious about what Nightmare Time is like, the rest of the show could have passed as one of those stories.
D. Sparrow
Paused in the correct place during the start of bury the bully because you really need to process that so you can have your full attention dedicated to "we're gonna hack all his limbs of *piano slam*" because that's yet another processing session all on it's own
Dave Ballinger
That and all the clicking haha
Dave Ballinger
It was so special! I was there too
Chris
can't really blame him for that, he's an analysis channel so he's gonna try connecting the dots to plot threads that get thrown out there. Plus he's got the benefit/curse of watching through YouTube compared to the live audience and as a side effect: control over video playback lol
Dave Ballinger
Ahhh you kinda spoiled yourself by going back to the beginning for the Crime Scene. The Langâs put it at the beginning so that you would forget and get to love him before he was killed.
D. Sparrow
"They're walking through the audience? Interesting." Way to forget one of the funniest jokes from tgwdlm and all the instances of characters walking through the audience in black Friday /lh
Dave Ballinger
In regards to Dirty Girl, I recommend a few more listens because itâs a genuinely good song and a bop to listen to
Dave Ballinger
Omg part 2 so soon! This is amazing
kayla ling
There is a fourth show that is across the hatchet verse. It's called Nightmare Time
erin quilmer
I'm glad you like the lighting. The lighting is cool :) The lighting is very cool :)
Bretton B
Damn. You're supposed to forget about Ritchie being the first victim, but you went back. That's sorta disappointing :/
Jennee
Also unfortunately it doesnât look like Gatsby tour is going that far west. All EST and CST time zone areas.
fizzycolalizzie
every time i hear that âi want you to repeat after meâ iâm transported back to may 2024 đ„č in starkidâs london concert that year, jeff blim sang npmd and we the audience filled in richieâs parts. it was so cool. i still get chills a little when i hear that line in either context.
TiaMattia2
This is actually super interesting, because it shows Max controls what happens in the audience too, just like after Pete's song he yells at the audience to shut up.
Corvacks
And is Nightmare Time's opening music
SummerSoulsandStars
Hmm I just the realized the "cool" part of Bully the Bully is probably a reference to Cool from West Side. How fun!
Erikka Lynn
Thereâs another reason everyone hollers about Pete looking like the Homeless Man but itâs a spoiler for nightmare time if you ever decide you want to check it out. So. I shanât say.
Mikayla Prushik
I hope you at least watch Nightmare Time on your own. And then maybe make a short video with your thoughts at the end. Could be a fun Patreon exclusive video too?
fromhigherthings
yeah that act 1 finale is WILD. i was lucky enough to see it in person and jesus christ was it weird to go to intermission and get snacks while still reeling from that last song lol
Jennee
Favorite note from Jon and Jeffâs livestream of the show: The snaps in Bully/Bury the Bully come on Beats 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4 so even the attempts to be âcoolâ with the snaps are off.
Somedude Watchintv
I don't know about anyone else but the bury the body song always sounded like a self-aware attempt by the character to sweep the situation under the rug to me. Like she knew she was in a musical and she used the song to cover up her actions.
Isla Sullivan
Hey Grace Chastity may be a psychopath but at least sheâs nice to Bill at Church.
Kat Sheridan
I love that this show wraps act 1 where it begins and sees through the plan they made and then act 2 is the âafterâ, it reminds me of into the woods just a little bit of getting to happily ever after, like you were talking about with everything being happy, and then act 2 having all of the results/consequences of what getting to that happily ever after took
Gabriel the Sorcerer
Not really. When the cops say, "First the Jagerman boy, now this?" They're referring to the fact that he's been missing for two weeks, not that they know he's dead yet.
Sarah Rodrigues
And if you need a good reason to watch the TGWDLM remount when it goes up on YouTube, Will Branner (Max) plays Professor Hidgens in this version and it just shows Max wasnât even him at full power
Chris
18:00 now that I think about it, there's a small plot hole in NPMD specifically about when the bodies are found (more specifically which is found first)
Sarah Rodrigues
ALSO since the lighting doesnât make it clear and the captions incorrectly identify that sound, the noise in the second verse of the title song isnât thunder cracking, itâs Max slamming the doors at the top of the stairs in Richieâs face
Sarah Rodrigues
And also a specific one called âThe Tragedy of Max JĂ€germanâ that will 1000% vindicate your color theory but if you donât watch NMT first then it wonât be in the way youâre expecting
Allison Watts
Act 1 and Act 2 of this one are such different vibes. It's such a long set up, but it's really worth it to be endeared to these characters before they start dying. I think that it starts with Richie getting discovered and goes back is a good way to show the audience that horror stuff is coming I'm excited for the next episode because that has my favorite song. I hope that you're hooked enough that you come back to finish it quickly (don't burn yourself out)
Samantha Casimir
Love seeing all the tidbits you pick up on that so many other reactors don't - all the interrogation of the meaning of the color symbolism, the choreography, that level of attention to detail pays off soooo much with a show like NPMD and it makes it much more entertaining to follow along with a reaction when I can tell the reactor is as keyed in as I am
Sarah Rodrigues
If youâre okay with a couple NMT episodes being spoiled then when you finish this I would recommend checking out on your own time (perhaps in the background while working or cooking or something like that), the video essay âGrace Chasity and the Horrors of Purityâ by fencecollapsed, it really delves well into Grace and everything she represents. If they ever release the rights to this show and I get the chance to play her that video would be so important to how I would approach it.
Jayden Callaghan
A few notes about Nerdy Prudes Must Die (The song) When max flicks his hands as Richie is running up the stairs the theatre doors slam shut showing more of that power that Max holds he can literally shut a door from the stage. Also that little piano cue at the end of the song is a motif that plays throughout the hatchetfield series. It comes from Not Your Seed in TGWDLM when Alice sings, âLook what happens, Nightmare Time.â
SleepingNight
You should check out the couple of like 30 second animations that people have made for the ending of the song, Nerdy Prudes Must Die .
Sarah Rodrigues
The exchange between Pete and Richie regarding Ruth is also a callback to TGWDLM; âI donât want to thoâ is Paulâs response to Melissaâs offer to join the office softball team and the second part is also a reversal of Joey and Jonâs roles in that show, when Paul is explaining the events of La Dee Dah Dah Day to the office: âLike a flash mob? âYeah, right? I mean what else could it have been?â âWell did you get a video of it?â âNoâŠâ ââŠYouâre fucking useless, Paul.â
Caryn Smith
The fact there's the other students in the background when Richie dies is such a cool thing, cause yes, they were all there, but he was alone when he was attacked
Sarah Rodrigues
The Homeless Guy reference has layers, both to TGWDLM but also to the Nightmare Time episode âTime Bastardâ (and technically its preceding title âForever and Alwaysâ too but thatâs just bc of how those two connect) I wonât elaborate beyond that but if you havenât entirely eliminated the possibility of putting NMT in a slot in the future then thatâs the episode Iâd be looking forward to the most in the event you started it one day
ariona leilani
the delivery on jon's "I'M NOT A LOSER" has given me chills every time that i've heard it since this show was released
Kris Shepard
Hey, Mortius, remember what you say about a kind of connection between Grace and Max's movements. Just keep that in mind and you progress through the show.
FryTheFish
The final 7 notes of Act 1 actually is the main melody of Nightmare Time. It essentially symbolises the supernatural core of Hatchetfield and is a scathing reference to transition straight into Act 2. It also hints that, for people who have been watching Nightmare Time and reading between the lines. Things might be a little bit different from the previous 2 shows...
Addy0302
I do hope that (eventually, no pressure) you get around to Nightmare Time. One of my personal favourite Hatchetfield characters only appears in that series and it goes a lot more in depth with the lore
Skye Alexander
I'm so happy to be a patreon subscriber right now...I can NOT wait for more
Lydia
Im sure you noticed it, but in the background the singers are singing the "cool as I think i am" motif at Richie's death. This motif is very very important, and this is the second most prominent showing of it AND one of the best moments in the show
Jacob Morton_
My favorite part is "Cooler than I think I am" in the background of Nerdy Prudes must die at the end. Literal chills every time
logicaldreamer
Your color theory/thought process is so fascinating. Very well thought out.
Flynn The Dance Teacher
I am so happy youâre finally reacting to NPMD as it is not only my fav Starkid show but also one of my fav shows ever. I know you mentioned not watching nightmare time but if you do I highly recommend watching Abstinence Camp as it delves deeper into the relationships of Pete as Steph as well as who Grace is as a character. One of the things I love about NPMD as a song is the âIâm not a loserâ because not only is it referenced in cool as I think I am, but also the double meaning of the word. While he may not be consider himself a loser in cool kids standard, he fell into the second definition of loser because of what he lost.
Faerin
This is genuinely one of my favorites and I'm so glad this came out so quickly! Cannot wait for you to get to act 2, cause you'll get a lot of lore near the end of the musical. Won't tell you what the lore is, just smth to look forward to :) Also Bully/Bury the Bully are my favorites from this musical and just genuinely fun songs to sing :3
Lindsey
Richie: âI love this school! I love being alive đâ Half of the audience: âNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOâ Sends me every time The show does such a good job at making you forget about Richieâs death JUST long enough for you to get attached
Mafidon
Such a shame that this show only has one act but itâs so refreshing to see more Starkid productions with happy endings! Donât know if I like the implications of a show ending on the moral of âdonât feel bad that you killed a man because everythingâs objectively better nowâ but Iâm so glad the characters go on to win the Big Game and are able to enjoy the rest of high school (me, happily in denial)
Kory Misun
Ruth really does surprise me during this chunk of the show. After she found out that Pete got beaten up, she's not afraid to tell Steph off, or speak her mind in general. She might get bullied at school, but her effs to give have run out. Because both Max and Ruth say 'Watch some prn, you'll see!' and because he's really sweet to her in the Waylon Place, I've developed a Max/Ruth fondness, lord help me. They have the potential to be really sweet, and if anyone can help her with her deodorant and confidence problems, it's Max Jagerman. It's such a shame, because he was really nice for a bit, and then, well... But that might just be the beers. I don't know why Bean School is excellent, but I always cringe out of my skin at that part. Pete's got a great point after the two week skip, but my mind goes to 'Imagine how happy you'd all be if Max hadn't died, got emancipated from his bully-menace of a dad and turned a corner?' Sadly, Hatchetfield doesn't do Happy Endings, there's always a major shakeup and the world is changed forever. In terms of Deadly Sins, I think Guy had... I don't know yet (Commenters, please help), Black Friday had a mix of Greed and Gluttony, and Nerdy Prudes centers around Wrath and Lust. Lots of vengeful plans, lots of teens who can't calm down. I'll need to keep an eye on the people bathed in certain colors, 'cause I've got a theory brewing. PS, at the end of NPMD, recognize the last few notes? Not Your Seed. 'Look what happens, nightmare time!'
Lindsey
Random tidbit from seeing the show live, Richie Naruto ran down the stairs when they went through the audience.
Kory Misun
The one moment Max was endearing. </3
Lindsey
Hopefully heâll watch NMT on his own time at the very least because respectfully something tells me at least 80% of his lore questions during this show will be able to be answered by that series đ
[Reacted]
Fun fact in case nobody mentioned it yet-- In TGWDLM, grace chastity is mentioned by the father character when he talks about his daughter and his difficult relationship with her. He says so I said "why can't you date someone like grace chastity? She's a good girl." And she said "GRACY CHASTITY IS A NERDY PRUDE" and I said "one, I said someone LIKE grace chastity. And two, that's not a very nice thing to say" and she said "YOU JUST WISH GRACE WAS YOUR DAUGHTER" and I said "WELL AT LEAST SHES NICE TO ME AT CHURCH" and that was the last thing I said to her. Oh my God. That argument was the reason she ran to deb. IM the reason she's in this mess.
Gabriel the Sorcerer
Mortius - "I'm going to need a 4th show to connect it all." Also Mortius - "I'm not going to watch Nightmare Time." I kid! (Mostly.) I understand that it's a huge time commitment. That said, if you want to get interconnected stories and learn more about the lore, that's where you need to go. I agree with what I've seen a lot of comments say to you, that even if you don't react to it, you should take the time to watch it on your own. It's absolutely worth it. As someone who is obsessed with lore and theorizing, I've watched through all of both seasons multiple times just to catch new things every time. I would absolutely love to see you react to them, but even if you can't do that, I hope you get a chance to watch them at some point.
bigbraveboop
richie saying pete looks like the homeless guy hits so much harder with nightmare time! if you plan on watching them in your own time, i definitely recommend watching time bastard, and then coming back to this.
Lindsey
Yes⊠Joey playing the homeless man in TGWDLM is the only reason why everyone holleredâŠ. The one and only reason đ
Lindsey
I am no longer capable of saying âskeletonâ in a normal way thanks to this show
Theking
HERE IT IS!!! the best song of the musical in this one! IM SO EXCITED
Mafidon
NPMD is basically âlocal 18-year-old experiences sexual attraction one (1) time: man dead, several traumatizedâ
ariona leilani
it's been years and i still regularly reference the cool beans part of bully the bully, it's in my head always, keep the beans beans the cool keep the beans the cool keep the beans BEAN SCHOOL
Nola Scott
I like that we're getting these so quickly
Parsley
This came out exactly as I finished the first part lol
CollinZcruel
Commenting before watching. Am I wrong for having bully the bully and bury the bully as my favorite songs? I love a good reprise
ariona leilani
omg i'm about to go to the gym and u best ur ass i'm watching this while on the treadmill im so EXCITED AAAAAAAAAA
