hey Starkid fan, so in nightmare time the Covid 19 Zoom acting they go into the Lords of Black (you don't have to watch them if you don't have the time) but it goes into short stories of the lords of black, Wiggly Y'rath is Wrath, and there are others in there, but yes its like the seven deadly sins but there 5 lords of Black and then there's Webby the spider that Hanna talks to.

I'm rewatching your reaction and despite me seeing this musical countless times I'm just realizing that when McNamara shoots the Wiggly doll, Jon has grabbed the one that has it's face ripped open from behind a box and throws that just as James drops the one they were all fighting over and it is almost seamless in the edit. I'll have to rewatch the digital ticket to see what it looked like live but that's really impressive to me! This is why I love Starkid because despite me having watched their shows since 2012 and being able to quote a majority of them, I still notice little things they do that are subtle and just not in the main focus of the show.

So apparently this is spoilers for this show, my apologies, do not continue past this point. I haven't rewatched Black Friday in a while, guess I had forgotten this is elaborated on. P.E.I.P. stands for Paranormal, Extraterrestrial, and Interdimensional Phenomena, as those are the threats they deal with. I'm only like 80% sure this is actually a fan theory and not something I came up with on my own lol, though I guess this is in fact canon but I'm still pretty sure i saw people talking about this post-Black Friday as if it weren't confirmed yet but who knows

btw the actor that played the cop & the Obama impression gov official (James Tolbert) is one of Starkid's main choreographers!! He was the choreographer for Black Friday and has choreographed for them on and off since A very Potter sequel :D

Ethan being ended actually hurt my heart. He was a goof, and had his fair share of problems, but Lex and Hannah loved him. Moving on before I cry. Get ready for my favorite Jeff Blim song, ever. It's said by commenters/cast, most of Starkid were performing sick, poor beings. Hehehe, does anyone notice how the names Becky, Tom and Stanley relate to horror in a very significant way? I'll only talk about characters whose names have been dropped in-show. Names-to-drop will be abbreviated. Big Spoiler Warnings for the answer... And! Black Friday is my favorite capsule for 80/90's horror. There are The Stand and IT references like WC. "Do you see him?" being repeated is like IT's "Don'tcha want it?!" There's also a Genius reference to Misery, where President Curt Mega screams about getting a cockadoodle doll. Lex and Hannah's mom is an alcoholic and worse because every King story has one. Becky Barnes is essentially Beverly who loved someone else and took down her abusive spouse, Stanley represents Tom her heinous hubby, and in this show, their names are cleverly swapped. Tom Houston might not directly be inspired by one character, but many strong, humanly flawed protags like the dad from The Mist. There are so many types and names from Stephen King's work, including Hannah who most definitely has the Shining/ is psychic like Dina from the Langoliers or the Losers Club in IT or the guys in Dreamcatcher... King likes psychic powers.

Oh I want you to start Act II now! Act I in this show really is just 90% set up. Even Ethan's death is more so just showing that people are actually dying from these riots. The "I'm in a hurry" man briefly showed up in TGWDLM at the coffee shop and the homeless man who offered $3 for a doll. The supernatural man is also the same one who dropped off the dolls because he says "Hello, naughty list" to both Lex and Linda. This show really is capitalism the musical. As you saw, there is some supernatural element, but it's still rooted in capitalism

Mortius! You actually hit the nail on the head with the whole Black and White thing! If you look back at the final verse, MacNamara says, "You gotta steeeeeeeeeep into the Black and White." The capitalization is definitely intentional, I'm so excited to hear your thoughts when it gets explored in Act 2!

I feel an insane need to lore dump all over this comment section but I'll keep it spoiler free. I am so happy you're getting into the lore, as well as the characters. BF has a LOT going on. In fact, I didn't enjoy it the first time I watched... and then completely fell in love and watched it a dozen times. It's my favorite Hatchetfield musical now. I'm not sure you'll get into Nightmare Time (it's about 12 hours total) but it's actually some of the best writing and acting from Starkid. I ADORE it and I cannot recommend it enough. Maybe before NPMD, at least watch season 1, episode 2 (Forever and Always + Time Bastard).

I always saw this show to be the most "serious" show Starkid has ever done. The characters are just so real and you care about them. I admit its my least favorite of the trilogy but has nothing to do with the quality of the writing, i just feel like it drags in some part and it took me many watches to really understand whats going on. Nightmare Time really helped me understand. The songs are just so good in this show and constantly get stuck in my head. I'm so happy you caught on to the Black and White bit. Many reactors miss it. (You know it might be funny if you wore black and white for the next reaction lol)

Not to harp on the same thing, but hearing Mortius get *so* into the lore makes me *need* him to explore Nightmare Time. I'm so enjoying the vicarious intrigue and excitement and theory making.

Fun fact: idk if you already know or if it was commented before, but during this production the entire cast was actually sick. You might be able to hear it a bit in some parts. So they did all of this while not feeling well and still nailed it.

I don't think it counts as a spoiler because it's never mentioned in any of the musicals and it didn't change anything but one of my favorite facts about Hatchetfield is that Gen McNamara canonically has a husband. They were planning on mentioning it in Black Friday but it had to be cut for time, but it's still canon!

I always see reactors being confused about why they're all fighting over one doll. The reason is because they have a limited budget and only actually had two dolls. All the other hundreds of dolls are invisible and being fought over by all the hundreds of invisible extras that are also here.
