Absolutely LOVE your reaction to the reveal. It is quite insane how similar to mine it was the first time I watched it. The theorizing got me even more hyped to watch you react to you being right. Even if you see it coming, it’s wild! Loved the execution of this plot twist because it’s always right there but during a live performance you don’t have the hindsight of rewatching other bits or songs to catch all the clues.

You were right with the little theme during Curt and Tatiana’s scene. It’s the same chord progression from Spy Again. It’s from the verse “I once was a spy, but I can’t be a spy again” making the connection between what he is saying now and how he felt right after Owen’s death and him going back to the field. He is still thinking about him and how he failed to save him.

We knew that reaction was going to be fun since the first episode, but it was awesome! I doubt the pre-watch claims will be too bad, either. Thing is, you really made a big deal of your theories (which was so fun, btw) and if a reactor KNEW their theories were fact, I doubt they would have drawn so much attention to their incredible prediction skills. Also, since I don't see anyone saying, I do think the underscore during Curt's backstory is a rendition of Spy Again. They definitely changed the key and slowed it down, but the overtones are there for sure. It also fits with the story Curt is telling about being afraid he won't be able to be the old Curt Mega again.

I just need to comment really early on the video about Lauren's voice. She is so freaking talented. Her natural voice is beautiful, but I admire so much her voice character, and there's one character in a musical I will not mention cause you're going to watch it someday, this character has a specific voice, but then the character is doing another character in a fictional show and you have: Lauren singing as her character who's now singing as another character with another voice and emotion, and it's probably her best song and vocals ever

To be fair, the fact that the show is gay spies is kind of a spoiler and that's all he knew going into it. If you know they're gay, then it's easier to notice that Curt and Owen are an item and you want them back. He was very much coping by trying to see Owen in everyone, but DMA is the only one that has real possibilities/foreshadowing. It makes sense that he clung to that one over the other random coping

Just a fun fact, I believe the Prince was played by a different person every night, notably once by a dog. The person who does it in the recorded version is I believe Corey Lubowich - one of the writers and I think when they say "first public appearance" about the prince, it is also Corey's first time on stage? Doing this is a song about the spy cliche of the guy and the girl always having to get together. "I'm a girl" "I'm a guy" "It's meant to be because we're both spies". But then flips it on its head and actually they don't have to do this. What the actual characters go through: Tatiana touches his hand and says "Maybe you'll find a new partner". She thinks partner means spy partner, because that's how Curt described Owen. So she's suggesting she can be his new spy partner. Curt thinks, she wants to be my new romantic partner, like Owen was. I should probably go with it, because that's what a heterosexual spy would do and pretends to like her. Tatiana picks up on Curt thinking about them together, thinks "oh, he likes me", i should probably pretend to like him back and we can have a relationship, because that's what always happens between spies. We get "Doing this". After the kiss, Tatiana decides that she can't pretend to like kisses like that. Translation of the SUBTEXT :) Curt: I'm [gay]. You're not my type. Tatiana: I can tell. So you're into [guys]? Curt: I thought you [were flirting with me/wanted to be in a relationship] Tatiana: I wasn't. But the mood suggested [that you were thinking of me romantically.] Curt: Of course. I figured when you said [that I'll find a new partner, that you meant that romantically] Tatiana: Not my intention (I meant it just as spy partner. I don't like you like that.) Curt: Good, me neither (I also don't like you like that). I just wanted [to make you happy? do what was expected?] (it could be any number of things here)

I think part of the reason the prince was portrayed the way he was, and the way they spoke about him, was to show their prejudice against those who were 'different' at that time- the 50s were notably harsh for people who were neurodivergent or gay.

49 mins into watching. A) you were /so close/ with your thoughts on the Spy again reprise. It /was/ a reprise. I haven't gone to find it exactly, but it's the "put this drink down, turn my life around" & "You'd want me to spy again" slow section of it. B) Subtext for we're (not) doing this: I am certain that the subtext is that he's gay. It being the 50s, he's not going to admit that out loud, so this is basically the closest he can come to "coming out" with it still being "unspoken", ergo the actual unspoken sections of the songs "I'm [gay. Wait, can't say that, it's 1957]... you're not my type." "[oh, that means he's gay for sure] so you're into ... [wait, I can't actually ask him outright, it's 1957...]"

I'm not surprised that you got it. You're a bright being. Make sure you rest between series! I love the Doing This song, because it shoves all the romance cliches in our and their face, and they think they should just go along. But nah, don't force yourself into a place you don't want to be, and kiss someone you don't want in that way. 'Cause it'll lead to This Talk. This is huge for Curt, because only Owen knew. He has never said he likes men aloud because of this dangerous time period, Mama Mega's expectations, and other fears. Good for him though, having support like Tatiana. My guess is that when Curt referred to Owen as his partner, he didn't mean just as spies but romantically. And when Tatiana said partner, she meant just as spies, but the mood suggested something romantic between herself and Curt (supported by Mama Mega). Attempt number two of dropping the suggestion for Mortius to cosplay as a spy. You know you want the pose, the suit, the swooning gals, blokes and all other folks. Also, aaa, the tea over-steeping!

The vindication you must feel at seeing you were right. I've been waiting for you to get here to see that reveal. I adore Doing This or what I mentally refer to it as: "comp het the song." I adore MK's singing voice and she and Curt sound SO good together. One More Shot is probably one of the most hype songs in this show. It's just so much fun. I also wanted to throw out a recommendation that occured to me when you said the word agony like 5 times in a very brief time. Some of the folks from this show (and other starkid adjacent folks) did a live broadway/musicals covers show called Shitty Broadway, one of my favs being Curt and Joey doing "Agony" from Into the Woods. Also Joey doing The Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde is worth a watch but Agony is fantastic.

Mortius!! I’m not done with the video yet (loving it so far btw!!!), I just got to the part where you mentioned Black Friday and Nerdy Prudes Must Die (it’s that order haha). It’s not a must, but I highly highly suggest that you check out Nightmare Time in between those two shows. There is a lot of lore and jokes in that series that will improve your experience. At the very least, you should check out Forever and Always / Time Bastard and The Witch in the Web (you can skip Jane is a Car tbh) as those are both amazing episodes and lay out some good groundwork. The entire series is worth checking out BUT if want to get to Nerdy Prudes faster and still catch some fun tidbits of lore and running jokes, please watch those in between and catch up with the rest later if it interests you!! ANYWAYS. Back to the video. I can’t wait for Doing This, it’s such a funny but wholesome scene
