23:02 it wasn't :D
Victoria Roberts
The device she's flying on is a harness hooked to a spinning bar. There's a behind the scenes video you can find that shows it and where she talks about learning to maintain her singing while being spun upside down.
AR Hester
I have a feeling the flying stuff is done with a crane, or something, otherwise idk
Ren
the expressions during space ag bachelor man were priceless
Janiece Eaton
MORTIUS MORTIUS GIGI MADE A SHORT ANIMATIC OF JANE DOE YOU GOTTA WATCH ITTTT
NerdyWordyPrincess84
"That's an existential crisis I'll have to deal with later"... That's a mood. Lol
Aren Seitel
you're absolutely right. if i remember correctly, in the fall fair that was supposed to be jane falling off the coaster, and only ricky noticed and then in this song the lines "a melody floats through the air, when silence falls, does no one care?"
ANTHONY ASHMALL
This is late but I am 99% sure that Jane Does scale oooo ahhhh is a also a callback to fall fair as well as it sounds very similar to the ending of fall fair but I could be wrong
Pumpkin Pumpkin
Mortius's facial reactions to space bachelor is the best 🤣
Hanon Ondricek
If you are a true Ride the Cyclone junkie, you may wish to check out writer Jacob Richmond's play LEGOLAND which is in the same universe as RTC and likely was a huge influence on Ocean's backstory. https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/7518079-legoland
Hanon Ondricek
I heard MickeyJo report on this and I'm so excited for the West End! The UK has a much better understanding and appetite for dark humour than we do over here.
Hanon Ondricek
The arc of this show repeatedly is "What the heck am I watching...okay I can vibe to this..."
Hanon Ondricek
He certainly did have a delayed stress coronary. We shall never groove to the soulful African rhythms of his compositions again!
Hanon Ondricek
I describe it as "Our Town + American Idol = Goosebumps"
Paradoxgavel
"Is Noel's Lament a ballad, and the Ballad of Jane Doe a lament?" Yupppp!
Tey
“Space Age Bachelor Man” is just “6969” by NSP
Moon Harris
everyone else was excited for BOJD, but SABM is my favorite song in the show(tied with Talia) because I absolutely love Ricky's character, as someone who's also disabled, and also someone who indulges in a lot of escapism. He was basically invisible on Earth, but in his mind he was a hero who actually spread love and compassion instead of perpetrating violence in the name of "justice" and "righteousness" and I think that gives us a lot of insight into Ricky's character it's awesome lol
Mythical Mar
This show is definitely Cats for Gen Z. FACTS!
Hanon Ondricek
The only other production I will vouch for other than the off-Broadway is this one which uses the updated script with some different book material and includes my favorite rendition of "Space Age Bachelor Man". https://youtu.be/E_S6p0mel4M?si=YuqhOA7-QfPBP5ic
Robert Beyda
I think Father Marcus died of grief and stress of losing 6 children under his care. Understandable, tbh, if I was left in charge of 6 young lives who died, i wouldn't be able to take it.
Hanon Ondricek
Rehearsal footage: https://www.tiktok.com/@emilyrohm/video/6921076609218809093 - Emily Rohm proving she can sing in any physical position: https://youtube.com/shorts/2A3wDJeM7zY?si=DqegtX9vmogMrxyH - Emily posted that she had no idea she'd be flying until she was at a fitting for the harness.

About the titles of "Noel's Lament" and "The Ballad of Jane Doe" not actually being a lament and a ballad respectively, it's because Noel's song is a ballad about wanting a lament, and Jane Doe's is a lament about wanting a ballad. Much like the songs themselves, the titles provides a chance to reflect what each of them wanted, rather than what was.
Enby_Ember
if you are interested in how jane doe flew there is behind the scenes footage of them practicing with the mechanism
Ellery Black
I would actually argue that RTC is actually closer in structure to Cats. I will die on that hill.
Rome
yeah, nobody is EVER ready for space age bachelor man 😅
Enby_Ember
"Gen Z rocky horror picture show" is so accurate
Ashley
I believe they replaced Fall Fair Suite with Uranium Suite, but they’re both pretty much the same. Thigh Uranium Suit removes some of the bits that make Fall Fair Suite even better like “when the fall’s not fair this ride goes where?!” And replaces with a bunch of lines of the kids loving Uranium (when the show makes it clear most of them hate their small town)
Mortius
YESSSSSSSSS
Dorothy Rosenberg
I love your brain farts & bloopers. Today’s opening song was great (just because you accidentally muted the feed). The “Ballad” of Jane Doe does seem to be a Lament.
Ratatosk Clarke
cannot wait for the finale! it’s got my favorite songs of the show. plus constance is one of my favorite characters
Ratatosk Clarke
The flight is very much real!!!
Liz Lilliman
Eeeek I am going to see ride the cyclone. They are doing a limited run in London. So me and my daughter are going to watch it
Smee
In the song?? I don't recall anything particularly dark in the song, although yes a content warning is probably warranted for her monologue beforehand.
Smee
Yes me too, the thing that she finds terrifying is that the lioness just continues copulating with the male. Like the assumption is that the cubs are replaceable and so is she, our individual deaths don't make a lick of difference to the human race that continues living and loving and reproducing without us.
Ziggy
After you have finished the stage viewing there is a song you missed! Uranium Suite is the official opening song for the Musical!
Rebecca Carter
With Jane Doe's comments about time eating its children, it reminded me of her catchphrase at the beginning with the lions. The male lion gets annoyed and eats his children, and the female lion doesn't care, and that's what she finds terrifying. If time is the male lion, who is the female? Chronos and Rhea?
Ryan Tjarks
1. Yes, that was a real Silver Surfer quote. It’s from Silver Surfer: Requiem written by J. Michael Straczynski. 2. Ballad of Jane Doe through the end of the show is all the parts that really made me fall in love with this musical. The next song is definitely my favorite.
Addy0302
I don't think anyone has ever been ready to see Space Age Bachelor Man for the first time
Christopher Heredia
I think it's warranted a warning should be given about constance song since it's one of the darker real world topics that you could find triggering
Kalyn Hanixman
"That can't be real!" IT IIISS!! The actress did a behind-the-scenes showing of how they did it and showed some of her practicing on it, it was WILD and SO COOL
Kimberly Oblinger
You need to watch the Waiting in the Wings documentary for Ride the Cyclone. They go into a lot of detail about the Jane doe staging.
Ashley Steinbrecher
If I remember right, the actress for Jane Doe did a tone of working out her core and training to prep for the floating sections. That is 100% her love vocals
JenaeH
Yes my favorite musical song reacted to by one of my favorite reactors!
Ink Inc
Space Age Bachelor Man is a criminally underrated song and does so much for Ricky’s character. I have so many thoughts about it. Also, it’s nice to be catered to as a shameless Cats (musical not movie) fan.
Seraphina Stardust
Are you looking for the word manifest by chance? I ask knowing i have series I'm writing for funzies where I isekai'd myself
Danielle T.
Ricky’s costume in Space Age Bachelor Man reminds me of 80s rock bands (and specifically Kiss)
Sal Operator
mortius pausing after every line in ballad of jane doe is so real 😭😭
Michelle and Yukishi
Near the end of this video it shows how Emily Rohm aka Jane Doe rehearsed the upside down singing for Ballad of Jane Doe https://youtu.be/218WsP4koUQ?si=jVxn92ny72kYeLtw
Mortius
OH YEAH
Shannon Johnson
So YouTube channel Wait In The Wings did a deep dive into Ride the Cyclone history with interviews with the cast and directors. They talk about how they bought a Gantry Crane to hook Jane Doe upto for this scene. They talk about at the 1 hour mark in their video. https://youtu.be/ASOo0G8RQMs?si=3lmt6tiSDZ-0uQkT be aware that if you do watch their video and have not finished this musical there will be spoilers.
Michelle and Yukishi
I was so happy from the ballad of Jane Doe I got light-headed from the lack of air-Yukishi
Mediocre_ Me
Noel sang a ballad but wanted a lament. Jane sang a lament but wanted a ballad.
Allison
the flight is real! she practiced so hard to be able to sing like that. she has a very strong hip harness under her clothes and in the middle of this number she backs up against the curtain, behind the curtain is the crew with a giant seesaw looking thing. one end attaches to Jane Doe's harness which the crew does while she's standing against the curtain and on the other end is a wheel. so once she's attached they can push down like a seesaw to make her go up and then use the wheel to turn her around, including 360 degrees! it also moves left and right across the stage too. they also put wire in her skirt pleats to make sure it doesnt flip up while shes upside down. super cool!
Shiloh
And a fun Lil thing, Mischa has "driven Noel to drink" like in his song, too💕 Kholby(the Noel) has commented he supports the "ship" of them
Lyni
Its all live!! Shes a powerhouse fr
Sal Operator
ITS FINALLY HEREEEE
Lindsey Freeman
Also no, she is not lipsynching. Emily Rohm (and every other performer who has played Jane) is just a beast and can do that She is singing in the rehearsal video I mentioned too, and it’s a bit less polished (by that I mean no vocal effects, she’s still perfect) so you can really tell. No, I don’t know how it’s possible and yet it is
Jennee
Is Noel's Lament a ballad and the Ballad of Jane Doe a lament? Basically, yeah. Also hitting another "Six" parallel with the fifth contestant having one of the most emotionally crushing numbers (Kathrine Howard's "All You Wanna Do").
Lindsey Freeman
Omg Mortius you were killing me with the pausing right before Jane starts floating and then TWICE before the spin 😭 Like it’s fine I’m not complaining but I was stressing The way the flying/spinning in TBOJD is done is with a mechanical arm. When she steps back against the curtain, the arm is attached to a harness around her waist. It’s super clever design, if you want to see how it works Emily Rohm (the actress portraying Jane) has a rehearsal video on her Instagram
ShockedCorgi
I'm so glad I have Patreon for the lil bit of Hazbin Hotel
Pumpkin Pumpkin
I second this
Dee Pearce
It's INSANE how she sings all of the ballad of jane doe live. Easy to see why you'd suspect lipsyncing but nope! What a beautiful voice
ShockedCorgi
So happy!
l3erryPipsqueak
Also as said the last time, I am so excited for the next recording with Constance’s intro and song. It gets overshadowed a bit coming immediately after the ballad of Jane Doe, but I love it so much.
Shiloh
Emily has posted TikToks of her first flight rehearsal while singing this in full, and it's AMAZING.
Shiloh
I'm glad youve reached my fave song, Jane Does Ballad💕
l3erryPipsqueak
Noel’s lament is a ballad that he wants to be a lament, The Ballad of Jane Doe is a lament that she wants to be a ballad. Also yes, that is absolutely being sung live which is completely wild.
Seraphina Stardust
Ive been waiting for you watch the ballad of jane do 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Magnus Taliesin
lol yeah Jane's Ballad is a Lament, and Noel's Lament is a Ballad XD
SugarBrother
Yep, ballad's a lament and lament's a ballad
Allison
it seems like you're confused as to the mention of "Virgil chewing" remember in the beggining of the musical karnack mentions that Virgil is the rat chewing on his power cord that when he inevitably chews through in an hour will electrocute him and also kill karnack. the entire musical is about karnack using his last hour of life and power to bring one person back to life!
Kory Misun
My excitement level is nearing the top of the scale! Hope everyone is doing well with minimal body pain! My backs been doin' me in lately. I think Casper and his Grandma would really like Jane Doe (Emily Rohm)'s singing. She sounds like she would be a spellbinding Christine. The harness isn't one for typical stage performances. I don't remember the crane's name, but it is Very Real and Emily said it eventually helped her singing. Her uniform skirt also has a skeleton so no one had to worry about it falling down over her head. The beautiful scale you talk about also appeared during Fall Fair. <3 Don't worry, Mortius and Patrons. Our minds have been through it trying to puzzle together Jane Doe's number, but I assure you: Emily Rohm sang this live every time, she did her own stunt performing and if anything went wrong, the cast and crew were going to be there to catch her. Ricky Theory and Spoilers Ahead! If Ricky had been saving the name 'Savannah' for his own daughter, biological or adopted, even if he's saving it for his own first pet, I will riot while in tears. The dear boy's already conceded, and given up on a life, therefore giving up on whoever his Savannah might have been.
Magnus Taliesin
It is, unless I've been misinformed, canonical that Jane Doe is speaking through the doll's head. But! As far as how she's flying, it's not a harness and wires, it's this kind of lever mechanism? You can kind of see it in this tiktok from the actress: https://www.tiktok.com/@emilyrohm/video/6921076609218809093 And she 100% sang it live. I don't really vibe with most of this musical but it's had a fascinating history and this song in particular is just AMAZING.
Mortius
What if I told you it was in my head because I just finished recording vocals for a full cover 👀
Ink Inc
