I'm with you. This is clearly a story about progression and character growth, which means you have to start at a low point. So many "progression" stories aren't really progression at all...they're One Punch Man with extra steps and none of the excellent humor. If the MC's stats are so high that everyone they face is always below them, is it really progression? In this story, the MC has to work hard, makes mistakes, and deal with a world where things are actually more powerful than a lone kid. I find this makes the world more believable; if it were so easy for people to break the system and become unaccountable, societies in that world would have collapsed long ago. And the MC isn't weak or stupid, especially compared to his peers. In real life a kid being dragged around a military operation would have zero chance of meaningfully interfering with it or getting their way. He's useful in this case but only because of what he knows and a single useful skill. I mean, if people want to leave, leave, but one of the reasons I find this story so compelling is that Kai is NOT automatically the biggest, toughest guy around, but it's also not misery porn where he's enslaved, abused, and treated like crap because nearly everyone in the world makes Hitler look like an average dude. I get that many people are just looking for another "OP MC does OP things" story, but it's not like Drewells hid the ball or anything, the MC struggling, having to actually learn how to be stronger, and deal with people who are stronger than him has been consistent basically from the start of the first book. Why are people expecting a sudden massive genre shift?

Man, this story has some of the most negative, whiny readers I've ever seen. Every chapter is just complaints on complaints that Kai isn't effortlessly manipulating characters, institutions and events wildly more powerful than he is. It's like they've somehow read 200+ chapters without understanding the story's main themes and narratives. "If I were the MC, I'd definitely walk into a maelstrom of chaos, hostility, unknown factions and unchecked power and emerge smelling like roses with my superior logic and decision making skills. Tension, drama, growth and obstacles to be overcome are lame. I want the MC to succeed at literally everything no matter the context or difficulty. "
