Feibel Sebastian

Or set it of at shrine. Which sealed something like the worst monster and used the ambient mana of the isles as full. Which creates a worldqide Disaster and elavates the isles as follow up after destroying the Republik. And kai is the only survivor. 🤣🤣🤣

Awesome chapter really cool item

nicolas

For me it's the opposite, I think that the reward is the perfect plot device. I can agree that at first it doesn't appear as a good parting gift since it's dangerous and the avantages of using it are kind of nebelous, but when you consider Vyria caracter and that she just took Kai to experiment what someone could do if he started at red 1 and to reduce Elija boredom, it make much more sense. She is just making another expirement to she what happen when you give a fate item to "favorman". A potion that bump him directly to yellow feel uninspired and doesn't add to the story. He will become yellow one way or another. This new device can be extremely overpowered in certain situation and create situation that coundn't have happened without it, but it's also a double edge sword that could put Kai in mortal danger if used incorrectly, so it's not just a cheat object.

Signspace

I will kinda agree here, it is a bit out of left field, it is most useful in a situation where only good things can happen to you, and those situations a frighteningly rare. In any other situation it's as likely to fuck you over as not. I definitely also expected a treasure or item to aid in grade promotion, if that's possible, and it should be.

Austin

The fact that Flynn is talking about the artifact as a we instead of you gives me warning bells. Kai spent almost a year trying to earn it and Flynn makes it sound like it's partially his as well. Hoping this doesn't blow up in Kai's face.

SAB

I think the artifact is a "Good Will Hunting impossible math problem" plot device. That is, Virya gives it to Kai and mostly leaves it up to him to figure out. Kai the prodigy doesn't know what is considered possible with it, and therefore doesn't consciously or unconsciously limit himself. Eventually, he unknowingly figures out how to do the thought-to-be impossible with it. Seems like a very creative storytelling tool, and as long as its esoteric magic isn't all-powerful such that it obsoletes all other magic or skills, I'm down for it.

Halfcrzy

Honestly I feel the reward was an odd choice. This was his farewell gift, we cant teach you anymore, but want you to succeed item. Its a RNG disc. It doesnt help Kai in the LEAST. Infact it downright puts him at risk. Blasphemy if its found, it cant be controlled, and it doesnt help him grow at all. I seriously expected like a potion to promote his grade. I feel like it was a bit of plot miss here, but will add to the filler side quests of his island life. Bit bummed out.

And or hallowed intuition is a way to mitigate the downsides of Fate's Fulcrum. Is Kia training to become Domino (from x-men not the pizza franchise)

Eric M

I'm not as enthused with the reward as most of the other commenters. To me, the puzzle was a great training tool he could use to continue to advance his skills even after his mentors left, but the reward itself is a mixed bag at best. I would have been fine if it was some funny note, and a ghostly hand reaching out to pinch his cheek one last time. And if you really wanted to mess with everyone, when that ghostly hand pinched his cheek, he would have rec'd a 3rd blessing, which would make him question if Virya was a divine being... 🤣 That would have broken the entire story though, so save that for the ending.

wanderer117

IDK, it can turn certain death into uncertain death. That's a power I'd be happy to have. Part of it's utility is going to depend on what fate is. Kia already has a high fate (which is presumably mostly positive) so that might help too.

wanderer117

Maybe? What is chance, what is fate, what is random. Dice are only stochastically random, by which I mean they are completely predictable once all the variables are known, and all the variables (for dice) are knowable. Does fate effect stochastically random things or only truly random things (like when an unstable atom will decay)?

mechanizedbush

Very interesting chapter. I wonder if you could set up "Hitman style" accident kills with something like this. Set up an unlikely accident waiting to happen, trigger the Fulcrum, hope the accident happens. "any detail" -> "any details" "skewer the odds" -> "skew the odds"

Amazon Shopper

i get why u need a character like flyn for story purposes, but it is incredible how a regressor would put so much weight on the opinion of a reckless teenager obviously trying to take advantage of his younger friend. I mean, a 14 year old with that type of device... anyone with two cents would know not to heed their advice.-also virya definitely heard kai talk about his past life with his mother, probably why she trusts him with this, as she prob wants him to be an agent of chaos.

Game Devil

P.S.: Well since he's cursed with it now anyway, please let him charge it up and then use in the middle of one of those ruins of the ancestors. And let's find out if this archipelago is a volcanic one and if it is still active. Burn baby, Burn!

nicolas

Maybe it's a way to train hallowed intuition faster ? If he try to hear it's voice even when fate is perturbed that should be good training. And if he succeed, that would be a great help to survive the randomness

Game Devil

Great, give the boy a wand of wonder, an exploding one, and one that when used turns off his favor based danger sense cause all his favor has been emptied or spinning like a twisted compass. So instead of constant minor luck you get triggered greater Chaos. There's only one good use for these kind of things: sell them to your worst enemy for as high a price as possible and then run far, far, away. Too bad he doesn't want to attract attention cause that has become a hopeless cause now.

nicolas

Even less overpowered when the outcome can be deadly

nicolas

Flynn is clearly not cautious enough, but his idea of taking advantage of the environnement is pretty sound. It would be a shame for Kai to have this legendary artificate + his favor and never use it. With enough testing with small quantitiy of fate, he can create much more predictable outcome. What's more, he can anchor fate to a specific place and not himselve. That could be much safer : release the fate, run away very fast and then come back after to reap the tresors

Doubledoor

Fun stuff, though it has a few weird implications, like does this mean that as long as Kai has the artifact and its still charging unlikely things will happen to him less? (because it gathers his fate) Does that mean that all the unlikely things that would have happened will instead happen at the same time or that even more unlikely stuff does? Wouldn't either of those be really damn suspicious? etc. Still, one of the best examples of a luck based mechanic not being too OP I can remember. Kudos and Tftc!

Disclancer

"Birth child of a mad genius" did you mean brain child?

David

I wonder how virya will know whether or not he solved the cube? She said someone would come to retrieve the cube if he didn't solve it, will she send someone to check up on him in the coming months?

Lenora

Flynn is driving my anxiety through the roof. He was like a bad fate disk even before Kai got the latest one.

Nick Pincus

Or pure insannity when in complex situations.

Gromaul

Those ruins certainly seem interesting. One wonders what might happen if someone where to mess with fortune around them....

Andrew

Thank you!

David

Interesting. It looks like using the fate fulcrum messes with his hallowed intuition while it's in effect, so a lot of potential risk and reward with his high favor stat. Looking forward to seeing how they use it! Lot of possibilities!

xxmaniaxx2019

If Kai continues to increase his favor, he'll end up with an atomic bomb of randomness.

TheAverageNerd

I'm not in the habbit of making bets i know I'll lose... and Kai is cuttently living by "fuck around and find out", soooo really the question is when will he find out?

Takttiger

Damn that is a cool artifact to give Kai. Virya might have given Kai the chance for advancing the ranks and competing with the mainlands youth with this. When thinking about other stories I really like where this could go compared to other maincharacters already having this 'fated' thingy inbuilt (Luck attributes, Fated, etc. ) in order to generate a 'good' story. Edit: coming back to the authors note, I think this chapter was really, really on point and in tune with the story! Thanks for the chapter.

Aidan Geverdt

That’s pretty cool. Doesn’t sound overpowered to me if the outcome can be detrimental too.

Alexander Zeheter

Can Finn just die please? I‘m just so frustrated with him. (Not angry at the author - you’re doing great) It almost seems like our MC is unaware of the potential catastrophe Finn is by trusting him that much - even if he saved him. I bet, he’ll get screwed over by him 😂 (love the story btw - just had to air out my frustration 😂🙌)

Anthony Goh

A very powerful tool when used in reasonably controlled settings. Very interesting artifact.
