Thanks for the chapter

Yeah. Moving to the capital felt weird. Reishi was way too ok with it considering he wanted to sell potions in Selspring and our MC was too ok with leaving his family after previously wanting to stay sith them when his mentor was leaving.

Doubledoor

Its probably part of the Republic indoctrination. It would be a lot easier to manipulate the children into becoming loyal to the empire if they didn't have any other emotional pillars to lean on while they are doing so.

I don't know why, but... this really seems like a villain's origin story lol. The friends never knowing his father was tragically killed due to the heavy handed incompetence of the republic. Trained in secret, except for the alchemy. Ambiguous relationship with a terrorist organization. He has all the reason to get "revenge" on the republic, and his friendships are the perfect foil for a dramatic reveal of his true colors. The old him vs the new, him missing the warmth of his old relationships but already having stepped into the new Kai who can't be revealed yet, the Kai who can take the govt down. I can see the suspicion building until he comes clean in a grand finale of betrayal and revelations about the govt, possibly preceded or followed by a secret message to "get out of here before tomorrow" as his final gesture of goodwill (before the big plan goes down). At which point his final battles will end up between him and his friends, fighting physically, but also for the truth of their beliefs. At a critical moment, when Kai is about to lose his life, one of his friends unexpectedly takes the hit, sacrificing themselves to save him. It's an emotional moment for everyone, but in the turmoil Kai escapes alive, task unfulfilled, swearing in his heart to avenge their death. It just feels very apropo to the tone of the chapter. Lol I know I got pretty carried away there, but it was fun to flesh it out.

DANTE

The story had a strong start and i think a good future too but the current arch is really not doing it for me. I struggle to follow the logic of the developments after his teachers left, stayed on the archipelago to mend family relationships yet he leave after 2 months to help Flyn in a questionably effective search for safety/anonymity, Im also struggling to understand Reishi, he invested a lot in to Kai, knowing he is going to leave the archipelago in a few years, not once but twice, at this point if he get Kai to make potions for him for 2 years it wold be a miracle. Another thing thats turning me of right now is Kai obsessing over the republic, its just not that interesting, he is extremely ignorant of what is actually going on and doesnt seems to care to learn what's actually happening, Vel and her father actually having a workable, potentially good, plan for the problem make it seems even more pointless. I'll wait this book out and come back when Kai leaves the archipelago.

Hmm, I wonder what Lou is hiding 🤔 Truth teller training? His secret classes intrigue me

I mean he's still a kid and the whole reason he came here was to avoid the wrong kind of attention. That's just inevitable, though I get what you mean. It could be focused on less. What the narration chooses to focus on, show, or keep to the forefront matters a lot. I don't think it'll last too long though. They'll be training soon so he won't appear completely like a kid, and even still if he manages to fool them and be patient with his act I'd be more impressed than if he didnt/wasn't.

Taking off Christmas?! What's next, sick days?! Madness!!! I kid, enjoy the hollidays, and thanks for the chapter. :)

thanks for the chapter

Random Information

I'm wondering where the parents of the ex-Ducklings are. It's a bit jarring that none of these kids have parents around.

Thanks for the chapter! :-)

Crapgeezer

I don't mind the repetitive aspect, though I do hope he will be able to trust them and expose himself fully

Crapgeezer

Really enjoyed Kai meeting his 'old' friends

Sindre

But realy excited for when he shows who he is! And that cube...

Silver Beard

It'll be that much worse when he hits yellow 1 and the Amulet fails..at least if these are friends he intends to keep

Sindre

It feels maybe a bit repetitive? Like again he is hiding who he is, again acting acward, meek, etc. As if we havent moved on from sylspring, and before that it was greenside. The sooner we can move past the akwardness of Kai and the hiding the better for the story ( in my opinion) cause right now it feels like even though stuff is happening and new locations, the story characterisation (outside professions and levels) is not moving forward. If that makes sense

I love how we get see Kai as this impressive mage/alchemist and everyone else sees a weird kid :-) "I would have faulted" -> "I wouldn't have faulted" “Why did you hit me!” -> "Why did you kick me!"
