Thanks for the chapter !

George R

Thanks for the chapter

Rylie Harris

thanks for the chapter. really resonated with me.

Brandon Lydick

Eh, I can see it, he doesn't exactly have much or basically any experience with super dense crowds. It's a different experience altogether compared to underwater caves, a situation he technically has skills he's worked hard for to overcome. He's confident in that area, but he knows he's weak when it comes to social stuff

Logan

Not sure how I feel with this freak out in a crowd. One hand dense crowds can be frightening. On the other we have Kai who also is willing to go underwater cave diving and is orange 3 with a newly obtained profession with his skill of hallowed intuition that seems to help him recognize danger. Like it just reads as a potential small thing setting him off. This chapter didn't quite land for me.

Andrew

Thank you!

Thaabit Rivertree

Although it is a bit weird, I feel like people who are saying this have never been in a super crowded area where they can't navigate easily because of the press of bodies, especially when you weigh less than everyone and are shorter, i.e. you can't push people around easily. In those types of situations, the air at and below average head height can become very stale and difficult to breathe. I don't think Kai has ever been in that type of crowd.

Nikolai Beckel

nice chappie, liked the inside look.

`It was like he was back in Times Square at peak hour, plus the smell of seafood and unwashed people.` `Under the beaming sun, Kai was covered in sweat within seconds. Breathing became hard, and even the sky seemed to disappear hidden by the forest of people towering over.` I'm not sure how to take parts of this chapter. Has Kia always been bad with crowds, has Kia lost his ability to deal with crowds (from disuse) or is Kia just discovering that past trauma has made crowds hard for him to deal with? I didn't read his reaction as a full blown panic attack, but it wasn't a lot short of being one. I hope to see this developed more in future chapters when Kia makes it to the real (local) big city.

Kai narrowed his eyes. “Where did you take that?” should be Kai narrowed his eyes. “Where did you take that from?”

nicolas

I don't think Kai is very mature. He is more mature then a 12 year old kid, but he was also a kid when he died and hadn't even experience life as a normal teenager since he was in hospital. So I find it normal when he is a bit childish

Andrea Pozzi

Fixed :)

Andrea Pozzi

Fixed, thanks

DANTE

of course he is allowed to be overwhelmed, especially now that he has a lot of reasons to not be in top form, but this was over the top, at least in my opinion. The attitude twords kids in the last chapters is actually more puzzling to me, combined with the reaction to the city it give a strong sense of incompetence and fragility that seems out of place imo. PS, the "its not really what's happening" was a response to "a small 12 year old enter a big crowd" wich ye, its only small part of what's happening

mechanizedbush

Thanks for the chapter "Old Port had been on the philosophy" -> "Old Port had been built on the philosophy"?

Thaabit Rivertree

Inflated sense of self importance? Dude get outta here with that talk. You reply to just about every comment I make and wrote comments with paragraphs and paragraphs to complain about the tone of my comments. At that point, a person begins to wonder why you're giving so much focus and energy to it. It obviously bothered you quite a bit. I hope that's changed. And I hope you enjoy your time and loosen up.

LeoClashes

It is the first time he's been on his own with no authority figure ostensibly in charge of him. He's always either had his mother or his mentors there. These kinds of transitions in life create uncertainty and cause anxiety in everyone. That, coupled with a press of bodies on all sides and even above? It would cause at least a bit of claustrophobia in anyone who wasn't repeatedly exposed to it. I realized halfway through writing that I'm probably agreeing with you. The anxiety he's feeling at big changes and new experiences is normal, but he should also be mature enough to realize that and avoid any childish self-doubt. But maybe he isn't that mature since he's never actually lived an adult life despite his cumulative age

Doug Wills

Basically this town is like walking into NYC if the biggest town you've been in had 100K people. And it freaked him out a bit. *shrug*

Doug Wills

You're giving yourself an inflated sense of self importance mate. Your comments quite literally do not impact my enjoyment of anything. Chill. Don't let me live too rent free in there! But I'm happy that you enjoyed something.

Doug Wills

He was a sickly kid in his first life, and has only lived in moderately populated areas in his second. Is Kai just... not allowed to be overwhelmed by something like a person? And as Flynn pointed out, he'll be fine. He just got overwhelmed by a thing. It also didn't "depower" him. I dunno how you can say "that's not really all that is happening" when it's literally the thing that's happening.

DANTE

there was a lot of depowering of Kai's character with the "kids cant travel alone" and the "i cant even move in a crowd i need supervision" that seemed excessive to me, more that that, it seemed pretty random and artificial

DANTE

it can but thats not really all that is happening

nicolas

When you are twelwe year old kid smaller than everybody else and not used to a crowd density, it can be really stressful to be squiched and shoved around from every direction while not seeing where your are going

Thaabit Rivertree

@ Doug, since I know you'll read this, I would have made this comment regardless of our previous discussion. If I enjoy a particular chapter, I comment on it, if I find an issue, I comment on it. That's all there is to it. If you actually bothered to go back and look at my comment history you couldve easily seen that. Anyways, no matter how I react, dont let my reaction take away from you enjoying the story/shouldn't invalidate your enjoyment of the story.

nicolas

Because the density of people wasn't that high : Sylpring had big streets and Greenside had less people. Old Port was the most populated town before the republic and a bunch of locals must have been relocated there while the town streets / docks / markets size stayed the same

nicolas

Thanks for the chapter :) “I’m telling you know, ain’t I? -> “I’m telling you now, ain’t I? Kai looked at the sea parting before the ship vainly trying the pair of eyes burning a hole in his skull. -> I don't understand "vainly trying the pair of eyes"

DANTE

this seems weird, why is Kai having trouble with going around a town and navigate a crowd out of nowhere? another thing, weren't kids on the archipelago left on their own device? at least that was the case on the village he was born in and in Greenside, it might have been just the place or the circumstances at the time but it seems like a U turn from what was stated in the past.

PlasmaticPi

I'm sorry but what is this whole bs about having troubles with crowds and a new town? I mean he had to deal with navigating new towns twice already before(Sylspring and Greenside) and had no trouble. So why is it so much harder now when this is at best a middle ground between the 2 of them?

Thaabit Rivertree

Enjoyed the back and forth at the end with Flynn. It's good to see them actually getting along rather than just annoying each other for the sake of it. Anyways, It's good to see an unexpected side of Kai, and to know he's not invulnerable/there are some things that make him doubt himself. Feels more mature and that contrast gives it a bit more realism imo.

Arakrin

Thanks for the chapter <3
