George R

Thanks for the chapter

nicolas

Considering all the work Zerith did to prevent Kai from catching the attention of the governor's wife, I think that if he stand out too much with his profession, there is a good chances that she will take interest and try to profit from him by any means possible

Apoca

I'm not sure it's dangerous or that the Republic would target Kai for this.I think it simply lowers the quality of his professions. They see it as he sacrificed his potential for instant gain, which is foolish

nicolas

@Dante, I agree that the republic may know about those conditions. What might make Kai a target for the republic is that he fufilled those conditions in an archipelago where a good profession give only 1 stat per level

DANTE

the conditions for early unlock Kai achieved are easy enough to fulfill that it shouldn't rise any hard questions, its probably something widely known for anyone with a smidge of power, authority or just anyone who spends a lot of time in a frontline

nicolas

Every thing linked to the system seem to be associated with spiriuality in this realm and so is not really studied by commun folks. It like : "Do not question god". Kai is still a child who shoudn't have his profession, so what is the use to tell him about it now ? (In our world, we don't teach a number of things to 10 year old : stock exchange, sexuality, how violent the world can be...) When he ask older people, they know the basic about profession and tell him about it. So I don't think that it is inconsistent

nicolas

Magical language are useless in combat so it wouldn't be that big of a deal if he learned one

Random Information

Maybe Kai should investigate those old ruins with his new skill.

Thaabit Rivertree

It feels like there is a definite disconnect between how important they are in general, and how everyone reacts, and how much knowledge is taught about them/ how much people actually know. I don't think the author has worked it out yet so they are keeping us in the dark, but in turn that part of the world building in he story isn't making much sense. You'd think something so important it would be discussed liberally by society and info about it would be more widespread.

Disclancer

Also, I hate how patreon lists the newest reply first now 😑

Disclancer

Maybe finding himself a magical language he can use to give him an advantage in spellcasting.

Disclancer

I'm hoping for some indiana Jones action. Some forest temple diving and discovering the lost secrets off the islands old civilisation using his dad's notes

Disclancer

The Republic for one, an island child with an early profession will draw attention and have him taken away. His obscuring charm should minimise that though. And I think there are cultural observances that's Kai's just abit oblivious too that are colouring his families reactions, oh these unreliable narrators :)

Derek Walker

I’m still confused why everyone thinks taking a profession is so dangerous.

nicolas

profession skill seem much more powerfull then regular skill (and seems to have a knack to greatly speeding and automating some actions)

Malcolm Haynes

He did get offered a unique profession based on being an otherworldly. Favored son.

A fun chapter, a good start to new numbers going up. I didn't realize that both of his new skills were red, although that makes sense in retrospect. They both seem fairly strong for red skills, unless there are limits that we haven't seen yet. Maybe orange rank mana skills are very difficult / take up a lot of space to store with mana echo? The ending also felt more like a natural break then the last few chapters.

wanderer117

Remembering the long days he had spent on his mana skills, or brewing potions through his childhood, Kai would wholeheartedly thank even for a 1% bonus. should be Remembering the long days he had spent on his mana skills, or brewing potions through out his childhood, Kai would wholeheartedly thank his class for even a 1% bonus. kiewitz

He probably doesn't have to do much besides what he already aims for: reaching yellow, leveling his skills and maybe evolving 1 or 2 to yellow, taking more magic skills after getting to yellow and leveling them quickly af thanks to insane stats. Though he will probably do something insane cause i doubt there will be a 2 year timeskip soon

Ananiash

That would be lame

David

Agreed, I thought the the cube would be one of the first things he tested his new profession on

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter! :-)

James Faulkner

Tftc!

nicolas

Profession are related to your skills and feats granted by the system. Since Kai doesn't have any skill or feats related to being an otherworlder, it's normal that he got no profession linked to that

Thaabit Rivertree

I honestly feel kind of bad for Kea. She needs to learn to come to grips with people being better than her rather than being sheltered by her family. I guess they're worried she'll do something stupid. In that vein, it seems like Kai does the same stuff he just actually makes it work somehow... I suppose he had a bit more restraint and forethought though. Thanks for the chap!

Thaabit Rivertree

Makes sense his regeneration didn't double if his minimum capacity didn't either. It's weird for his skill to let him copy enchantments though. I thought a skill like that would simply let him recreate it with his own Mana. For example, in that scenario if it was too complicated, he just wouldn't be able to do it yet or maybe only maintain it for a second or two. Surprised he didn't try to solve more of the cube yet.

DANTE

"Since it was a red skill, Kai didn’t expect a mind-blowing improvement—at least not at level 1. No matter how big or small, even if it spared him 10 minutes a day, that would add up over months and years." all at the low cost of a few million XP, more seriously, its impossible to tell how much of an impact an early start can have, its a story so im sure its going to be a net positive regardless, it just that you can make the same exact argument for "10xp" a day for the life XP he gave up. On a different note, I'm curious what Kai is planning to do in order to get a better profession at 14, brewing potions is definitely not going to cut it so something is definitely going to happen, but is something Kai is planning to do or so is going to be something else?

Ottstop

Honestly, I’m glad he chose what he chose, but i still kinda wish there was a unique option for his professions since he’s an otherworlder. Maybe when/ if he chooses another profession, he can get one like he remembers stuff from his past life more easily, but it didn’t show because he wasn’t 14. Idk, I thought it was weird.

Andrew

Thank you!
