BookDragonling

Telling the terrorist kid his 'secrets' before even telling his family? = me hoping something bad happens to him for being dumb. I was expecting Mana Child to get picked so at least that happened.

TyrTheFallen

I wish this decisions did not take 10+ chapter's I understand it's important but it got boring 2 chapter's ago.

Deathhead

A rune player :)) With awesome mix 1 & 2 :)

roflkong3

Favor for sure

It's an mp4 player with an autoplay set to "Never gonna give you up".

nicolas

I hope it will increase his magic affinity ;)

Vamsi Yerraguravagari

I think judging from what Kai chose and lacks from the other profession, I think unlocking that box before age 14 gives kai a blessing. I am pretty sure about this.

Draega

I feel like Virya really hyped up the box, with it being valuable even for people of their background. It seems like it can’t just be some random thing that’s impressive for the archipelago that we ultimately forget about. Maybe a magical companion? Or something for improving the training of skills long term. Or maybe that’s where the magical mansion was hidden, and he gets a mobile house?

A B

Can't recall if that book says anything about profession requirements, but just looking at his own list, he's got some solid information now on how to unlock more/better ones. Just needs to find someone to get a 3rd blessing from, for instance. lol

Morog T Tiny

yeah, called it. it was the only one that made sense.

Darryn

Definitely called it. Mana is has been his whole shtick

Gorane

I mean it was kinda mentioned. Mana child is a general beginner mage class so anything he does with mana will earn him XP.

nicolas

Virya is hardcore so I'm not sure it will be that easy, even with a profession ;)

nicolas

It's not glossed oer, you just need to check the pdf to have the colors ;)

SAB

He didn't say Mana Child has a "poor spread." Considering the last sentence in that paragraph, he's ambivalent about it at worst but probably leaning towards seeing the spread as a positive. Which makes sense, considering those stats are best for improving his bread-and-butter magic, and he's naturally going to get some physical stats as he grows into an adult anyway.

Bosparan

Muahahahahaha Nailed it. :cough: Thanks for the chapter :)

nicolas

I almost hate week end xD

nicolas

The chapter may not have been any impactful moment, but it was necesarry. I don't think it would have been great if Kai directly picked the profession at the begining if the chapter, we needed his reasoning. The reasoning was short and to the point, so I don't know what could have been done better (appart from publishing two chapter in one go; but that's materially difficult ;) )

Gorane

Waiting one week for such a important choice was not, in my opinion, milking it. Like it makes sense that he would ask the opinion of others and it was a way to organically inform the reader aswell

George R

Thanks for the chapter, any of the options would have been good

Thaabit Rivertree

Also, I just want to say I'm still enjoying the story. On the whole I think it's pretty damn good and I hope my comments help Drewells to improve. The content has been consistently great, so thanks.

Mr. Bigglesworth

In before the reveal that the item inside the cube puzzle is an elixir to power up his profession and/or reset it.

Andrea Pozzi

will be explained in the next chapters

Thaabit Rivertree

Alright, I've written several versions of this comment. This should be the last one. @Doug, that's exactly what I'm talking about. When writing a book, you don't make a point to space out important chunks of info per X number of words. It comes as the flow of the story dictates. Some chapters will be more interesting than others. So saying all those events need to happen in their own chapter is just wrong. Now if what you're saying is they will be spread out and if a person reads them all together in book format, it won't feel drawn out, then I mostly agree. I just feel like this particular cut off was done poorly. Sure the book will be put on amazon, but that's certainly not the only audience. There is no new info this chapter, and despite the half-promise he'd pick, feels like a rehash of everything we already knew. Usually, when something like this is done, there are major consequences for the character, plot, and lots of immediate aftermath with the system/guide. None of that is shown. So while he does technically pick, it lacks any meaning or impact until we figure out how it actually affects him, and the least and most immediate if that isn't shown. So in the future, I'd say Drew should've held this chapter off and published this and the next one together, if he had to have the chapter break right at that exact moment. As I said previously, it feels unnecessary and timed for most dramatic cut off. Really it's a problem of expectations. I wish Drew had just said it won't be happening this week, or not soon. Technically he did pick, but plot wise nothing actually moved or happened meaningfully since even the choice had no material impact, yet. Can't do paragraphs on this device, sorry bout the formatting.

Derek Walker

I think it’s right on the edge of possible, actually maybe even a little beyond. Which was the point of cube. So he needs any advantage he can get

Ananiash

yes, but it will help him

wanderer117

teenaged mutant mana man

Andrew

Thank you!

Disclancer

First mana tween, then mana tee(n)

wanderer117

It wasn’t clear what he could need to do to gain XP, but he could figure that out with time. should be It wasn’t clear what he would need to do to gain XP, but he could figure that out with time. or It wasn’t clear what he could do to gain XP, but he could figure that out with time.

mehmed zepcan

DISCLANCER -Favoured son is definitely more of a sneaky sneak peek example from the author like look at this shiny possible profession hint hint future "FRIEND/-ENEMIES" might have. AND SAGE tots agree my dude when you wanna shift away from being too connected to a god you usually need a stronger gods help (in most stories) . I HIGH KEY wants some ancient civilization ruins weapons or something either in KIAS hands OR the terrorists to start this powder keg! ( Also I don't believe for a sec the spirits don't have an agenda)

wanderer117

'They were divided among only three stats, true, but that wasn’t necessarily bad.' He kinda did? Or do you mean that Kia didn't say he wouldn't need to drop it?

mehmed zepcan

We should do to the author what the fishman would do to kia lol throw money in his face but lock him up in our collective basements lmao JK JK xP

Abhishek

Isn't the puzzle something he should be able to solve in a year without even braeaking the second seal?

But then this ties him to the spirits and islands even more, like to the point it would be hard to leave. And removing this profession at fourteen might literally destroy him because of the spirits

Disclancer

Hope he gets favor for gaining a red profession at 11

Disclancer

I really feel favoured son will form the basis of whatever profession he does eventually end up with, or something more of that jist. Mana child provides the fuel for forming his foundations in magic, but his full profession will be I think will be one off exploration and discovery touching on the spirits off space, nature and water.

Thaabit Rivertree

Author, can you explain how the exp conversion works, and what the drawbacks are of losing his profession? I hope you don't do the thing where it's glossed over and when it comes time to do it, there is some big revelation (to the reader) about a mechanic Kai knew about the whole time that majorly infuences him or his decision. Basically if Kai learns about it, I hope readers can learn about it at the same time he does. I noticed Kai mention that Reishi gave him some ideas on how to deal with losing his profession, so that's what I'm talking about. New info about professions is always interesting, btw.

Doug Wills

All starting professions are red, yes!

Doug Wills

Basically this. It's a book. That's how books work. When the books come out people will find out the options at the end of book 2. Then the book will end. Then he will pick his skill in chapter 2 of book 3. And then play around with it in chapter 3. It's not drawing it out. It's literally just how writing a book works. These are books that are going to be published, and the author has to be able to write the book for people who are going to buy it on Amazon, not just people reading it here.

David

It won't feel so drawn out in the final book. It just feels that way for us since we're left hanging for a day after each chapter. Wanted to bank chapters for that reason, but I have a hard time not reading the latest chapter

Derek Walker

Does he lose access to these professions when he chooses again later? Like favored son might be better long term but man’s child is better now. Etc. he can just always pick it again later. Something that was glossed over: are all starting professions red? It was unclear if one could start with a yellow profession

mehmed zepcan

I'm just saying being one of the favorite sons of the island should have come with one of the best boons possible when you consider how low importance/ magic the islands have become and how desperate the spirits probably are considering they have had epic ancient civilizations

SAB

He didn't say that.

mehmed zepcan

I knew it. Thank you for the chapter. Totally figured he'd pick that based on his personality even though I'm dying to figure out what kind of boonie could get from two spirit. Gods. I feel like later down the road he's going to figure out what kind of option he could have got with the boons and he's going to kick himself because it's going to be like total water control or absolute earth minions or something

Dave Showers

Knew it.

Malcolm Haynes

First mana tee(n)

Eric M

Yes, Mana Child is the one profession he may not need to drop as it may evolve into what he wants long term. Although, as he pointed out it does have a poor spread of stats.

Thaabit Rivertree

I mean, I'm not going to tell the author what to do. But the parts everyone wants to see keep getting delivered one single small bite per chapter. I think it could have been done several ways and didn't need to be done like that. Feels like the author is dragging it out, by ending before we get any new info, such as what changes in his status, any new messages the guide gave him after picking, etc. Thats not heavy in word count. Maybe there's a legit reason, like the author is just having trouble writing, but it still feels the way it does. Plus, I mean the skills/boons he gets have probably been figured out for a while.

Gio

Calling it now, one of his future options will be "Favored son of Elydes" xD. Of course, he'll have to gather a ridiculous amount of favor for that.

Jackjargon

It does have the most flexibility and broad application to help with the puzzle and work as an alchemist so makes sense

Sean P

Kai thought about he didn't say thank you, then proceeds not to say thank you.

David

Great chapter! Glad the choice is made. Looking forward to seeing the boons and new skills next week!

Doug Wills

I don't think you know what milking something is. There was no possible way he was going to be able to do all of that. It'll be its own chapter. Unless you wanted him to play around with it for like, 200 words. Or if you expected a 5K chapter, but that's not super feasible. He writes 4 chapters per week.

Gerald Morris

Noooooo not Monday 😭🤣

Thaabit Rivertree

Man you are really milking this out lol. At least he picked. I think everyone just wants to see him pick AND see what it offers and test it out a little bit...

James Faulkner

Tftc

Ananiash

Mana Child now, and later let's hope for Mana Man : )

Ambrose

Called it! Thanks for the chapter!
