Tower of Dreams Chapter 3 - Progress Update (+Teaser #5)
🕑 Added 2023-06-22 16:16:36 +0000 UTCHello everyone. It's been a while since I've done one of these. First of all, I want to apologize for taking so long to release Chapter 3. I'm not going to blame anyone but myself for that. While I was in the middle of writing Chapter 3, I decided to rewrite the whole chapter from scratch. (That also meant that I had to redo and re-render some scenes) This was done because I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the scenes and the story I was trying to convey. I thought I would be able to rewrite it fairly quickly since I had the draft already there, but as it turns out, writing a good story and scenes is difficult. (It also didn't help that I had limited time to work on the game in some months)
But, now that the writing is 99% done (only need to read the whole thing again to see if it makes sense), the only thing that's left is making the scenes and rendering them. I should be able to do that in July, and it will be done in bulk (meaning whole scenes will be made and rendered instead of 2 or 3 images at a time). I would also like to note that this chapter has a ton more CGs than previous ones. I don't want every chapter to have so many because it makes rendering them take even more time, but for this one I'll make an exception. Now, for the good stuff.
The teaser image...
This mysterious character will appear in Chapter 3 and will have a big impact on the story. She will help Elyn understand her powers better, but not out of the kindness of her heart.
But, she's not the only new character appearing in Chapter 3...
Introducing Minor Characters...
Just as the name suggests, these characters will have minimal impact on the main story. They will appear throughout the game, but only for a few times. If some of them are more popular than others, they will probably appear even more.
You will find out more about this character in Chapter 3 and later chapters. More characters like this are planned for Chapter 4 and beyond.
About some bigger things that are coming...
I've seen a lot of people complain that this game isn't a visual novel, but a kinetic one, and I 100% agree. So far, there haven't really been many choices that impact the game and I want to change that moving forward. So, with Chapter 3 (and later Chapter 4), I want to give players the ability to play the game in their own way.
The mini-games (puzzles and battles) will stay and evolve as more chapters are released. What's new in Chapter 3 is the ability to choose what kind of scene you want to view.
For example...
In some scenes, you will be given a choice between two characters. The scene will play out with the character you have chosen. Later on in the chapter, you will see callbacks to the choice you made. (Some might have small implications, and some might have bigger ones)
Fantasizing...
During some intimate scenes, Elyn will just be a spectator. That's when she can fantasize about switching places with one of the characters during such scenes. This isn't the same as dreams, since Elyn will be wide awake during them.
These two examples are only a part of what I have planned out. I want to see what people think first and then give even more choices in Chapter 4.
Some changes I have made...
As you might have noticed, the character icons have all been updated, and new backgrounds have been added to them. Every character gets their own color. I think the new ones look way better than the bland pink ones.
There are a lot more things that I want to show, but I want to be happy with how they look. The examples shown here are subject to change. No dates for the release until I'm 100% certain I can make it. I don't want to break any promises.

I'm still in the middle of making the scenes and rendering them. Unfortunately, I underestimated the amount of images I had to do and the amount of time it would take to make them. Thankfully, I have had a lot more free time this month to do some extra work. I won't promise a date yet, but I will definitely give a status update with a teaser image soon.

Hi, can you give us another status update? You suggested there was light at the end of the tunnel around the end of June, it is September tomorrow, nearing a full year since the last release. Are you close?
