The Ruby of Doma (2022) - [ FFXIV ]
🕑 Added 2022-10-06 23:48:03 +0000 UTCI have been holding back from posting anything else because this right here not only marks my 5th Patreon anniversary, but also my 300th art post! How neat is that?
Every year, give or take, I've drawn a version of Hilda from Final Fantasy XIV. For last year's anniversary I drew this one, which I wasn't entirely satisfied with and might warrant its own redraw some day.
This one here, however, is a direct remake of my very first Patreon post ever - The Ruby of Doma. To this day I don't know why I decided to title it like that considering she has nothing to do with Doma, but here we are.
The original piece was actually drawn in pencil and then scanned/finished in Photoshop. That's how I always did things back then and while I do think it gave the art a certain character, since then I've learned countless ways to make my art so much more efficient and professional and I think that's largely what I wanted to represent here (aside of the obvious "look, I got gud!").
Two fun facts about this piece: The flowers in the background of the new one are actually the same ones from the original - this was a watercolor painting I made myself, scanned and used as an overlay, which was something I used to do a lot back in the day. I felt that this would be a neat way to connect both pieces.
The second one: if you check the original, and if you're nitpickingly perceptive, you'll notice that the fold of the yukata at the chest is different. This is because at the time when I made the original, someone who spotted this pointed out that the way I drew it (with the right lappel going over the left one) was actually symbolic of funeral rites and thus was not the correct way to wear it.
And I think that's all I gotta rant about here! I would love to know what you think, as well as whether you think I should make prints of this one. Perhaps a limited edition signed run?
Let me know and, once again, thank you for all you do for me!

(And as a footnote, don't forget- for the 5th anniversary I will be giving 50 bonus points to ALL patrons who are pledged by November 1st so hang onto yer breeches! And if you're not a patron yet well er...*unsubtle eyebrow wiggle*)
