Okay, I would suggest something bright to show you whats highlighted(i noticed that its a moving clear highlight), heavy use of the d pad(at the moment it uses the joy stick), a to accept, Y button makes the screen black (i like this feature for... Reasons based on the games content.)

I haven't tried running ToM on Steam Deck. But from what I know, the engine should support the touch screen to play the game. Controller support is another matter. I have to decide what buttons should be mapped to which commands of the game or build an entire interface for this. I will consider adding support if it is something many people want, as it may take time to develop this.

So, update. I was able to get the ToM to run on a Steamdeck. It runs really well. My big issue is the lack of controller support. The deck controls dont work very well. I have to leave it in docked mode to uses a board and mouse. Do you have any plans to add better controller support in the future?
