Yeah, that’s exactly how it reads. Nothing to add from me. Interestingly, I forgot a lot of these older songs. I’m way more into his later work, the stuff I play almost daily. It’s nice remembering these old records even if they are sometimes hit and miss :)

Professor Skye's Record Review

I've already recorded most of the episode and had a ton of fun. All that remains is "Christmas Eve". Am I correct in reading this as a mournful song about remembering a loved one who died on a previous Christmas Eve? or, is there something I'm missing. Its the only song for which I don't have strong feelings.

Unfortunately I don’t have the whole picture behind it. So, “Labinci” is a term for citizens of Labin, Croatia. It’s a small town with a very long history going back to the roman empire. In the more recent history as part of Croatia, it was a coal mining town, at one point they had 4 different coal mines there. I know they had a coal mining strike that grew into one of the first anti fascist movements. But that was 1920s. I also saw on wikipedia that the mine was closed in 1989. I’m not exactly sure and couldn’t quickly find online the reason Balašević dedicated this to the citizens of that town. I suppose it’s either to support them through economic crisis and job loss with the mines shutting down, or possibly they were again leading the way in striking against injustices and social inequalities?
